History

Ser Clarence Crabb was a legendary hero from Crackclaw Point. His ruined seat, the Whispers, is allegedly named for the severed heads he collected and brought back to his wife, who raised them from the dead. These heads of pirates, lords, wizards, and knights were used as counselors, and would whisper among themselves.[1] According to Dick Crabb, the Whispers has been a ruin for "a thousand years".[1][N 1]

Ser Clement Crabb and Ser Ryam Redwyne, both of the Kingsguard, broke thirty lances against each other at the tourney in King's Landing in 98 AC which celebrated King Jaehaerys I Targaryen's fiftieth year of rule; the king eventually declared them co-champions.[3] Ser Rupert and Ser Clarence the Short were other Crabbs who served in the Kingsguard at some point.[4]

During the Dance of the Dragons, House Crabb declared for Rhaenyra Targaryen. Crabb forces joined Lord Walys Mooton to liberate Rook's Rest from the control of Aegon II Targaryen's greens.[2] Tales of Sunfyre taking refuge in Crackclaw Point were told in the halls of the Crabbs and Brunes.[5] Ser Rennifer Crabb marched from Maidenpool to King's Landing with Lord Manfryd Mooton, Lord Leowyn Corbray, and Lord Brune after Aegon's death.[6]

Crabbs were with Rhaegar Targaryen, Prince of Dragonstone, at the Battle of the Trident during Robert's Rebellion.[4]
