Kyrie was a maester of the Citadel who served House Baratheon of Storm's End during the reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.[1]
History
Maester Kyrie served Lord Rogar Baratheon at Storm's End. In 54 AC, Rogar's pregnant wife, Lady Alyssa Velaryon, fell ill, and went into labor a month early. Maester Kyrie, a midwife, and three bedmaids attended to her, but could only relieve her pain. When King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen arrived at Storm's End, Maester Kyrie told them that there was nothing he could do anymore for Alyssa, but that, if he was allowed to cut her open, he might be able to save her child. Lord Rogar told him to save his child, and fled while Kyrie delivered Alyssa's child, Jocelyn Baratheon.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Greek word "kyrie" is the vocative case of "kyrios," meaning "lord" or "master." It is also the common name of a Christian prayer.
