Martyn Tyrell was a younger son of House Tyrell during the early reign of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen.[2] He was married to the clever Florence Fossoway.[3]

Character

Martyn was a young man when his lord father passed away. Lord Manfryd Redwyne believed Martyn to be a dolt, though Septon Barth favored him as young and eager, but could not vouch for his wits.[3]

History

After the murder of Lord Rego Draz, a new master of coin was needed. Septon Barth put forward Martyn who he knew from his time serving at Highgarden;[4] while not praising his wits, he mentioned that Martyn's wife, the Lady Florence Fossoway, had been handling the Reach's accounts for years and had increased the incomes of Highgarden by a third. King Jaehaerys I Targaryen agreed with the septon and summoned Martyn and his wife to court, believing that Queen Alysanne Targaryen would be fond of the intelligent Lady Florence.[3]

Martyn—aided and abetted by his clever wife—proved almost as able as Rego, the so-called Lord of Air, had been as master of coin. This made the Seven Kingdoms prosperous and allowed King Jaehaerys I Targaryen to expand his project of roads, creating the roseroad, the ocean road, the river road, and the goldroad once the kingsroad was completed.[3]

Family

Martyn Tyrell was the younger son of Lord Bertrand Tyrell. Through his father, he also had several unruly bastard half-brothers.[3]
