Moon Boy is pie-faced, and he wears the motley clothing common to fools.[3][4] He has big, round eyes and carries a rattle.[5]

The acrobatic man is able to cartwheel,[6] walk on stilts,[7][8] and juggle.[6]

Moon Boy is considered a simpleton,[9][5] though Sansa Stark and Dontos Hollard suspect him of not being as simple as he seems.[3][10]

Moon Boy and Butterbumps entertain during the wedding feast of King Tommen I Baratheon and Margaery.[16] The fool capers when Cersei, the Queen Regent, meets with members of the merchants guilds.[17] When Tommen is permitted to name the last five of Cersei's dromonds, he chooses Moon Boy for one, but is dissuaded by the master of ships, Aurane Waters.[18]

At Darry, Jaime confronts his cousin Lancel about Cersei. Lancel admits that he had sex with her, and Jaime wonders how many more men his sister has slept with. He then wonders if Tyrion's comment about Moon Boy was just a gibe.[19] Jaime later has a dream where he finds his sister having sex with Moon Boy, after which he kills the fool and smashes Cersei's teeth to splinters.[20]

Moon Boy dubs the new High Septon as the High Sparrow.[21]

Quotes

The king's own fool, the pie-faced simpleton called Moon Boy, danced about on stilts, all in motley, making mock of everyone with such deft cruelty that Sansa wondered if he was simple after all.[3]

Sansa Stark's thoughts

The Spider pays in gold for any little trifle. I think Moon Boy had been his for years.[10]

Tyrion: Our present High Septon is a trained seal who barks prettily on command. Moon Boy is more like to annul my marriage than he is.
Tywin: Perhaps I should have married Sansa Stark to Moon Boy. He might have known what to do with her.[23]

Cersei is a lying whore, she's been fucking Lancel and Osmund Kettleblack and probably Moon Boy for all I know.[24]

A fool he may be, but he wears his folly honestly.[5]
