Stygg is a ironborn raider sworn to House Greyjoy.[1] He is a crew member of Sea Bitch.[2]
Appearance and Character
Stygg is bald.[3] He wields an axe[1] and a spear three feet taller than he is.[3]
Theon Greyjoy does not think Stygg is a particularly skilled headsman[1] or rider.[4]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
Stygg participates in the harrying of the Stony Shore under Theon Greyjoy's command. Stygg and Werlag drown the captured Benfred Tallhart upon the recommendation of Theon's uncle, Aeron Damphair.[1]
Stygg is also part of Theon's force in the capture of Winterfell. When Theon speaks with the castle's inhabitants demanding fealty, Mikken shouts insults and is beaten by Stygg to silence him. When the smith persists, Stygg kills him, stabbing him in the throat with his spear. The captive Osha says she will serve in return for being armed again, to which Stygg harasses her. In response, Osha knees Stygg in the crotch and knocks him to the ground with the butt of his own spear while the other ironborn laugh.[3]
Theon sends Stygg to request aid from his sister, Asha Greyjoy, at Deepwood Motte.[4] Asha eventually arrives at Winterfell with a small group of men.[5]
When Rodrik Cassel's northmen arrive to retake Winterfell, Stygg is among those ironborn who abandon Theon to join Asha, though he is the only one who looks ashamed about it.[6]
Quotes
Stygg: I got a spear for you right here.
Osha: You keep that soft pink thing. I'll have me the wood and iron.[3]—Stygg and Osha
