Orders of magnitude

Very interesting to see these mentions of currency listed together because they actually seem inconsistent on the part of GRRM. If the Kingdom was 6 million in debt (a colossal sum) this doesn't equate with the Hand's Tourney having a prize purse of 90,000 all up. That's basically paying 1.5% of the national debt as a prize. Like someone in America being given about $50 billion to win a sports competition. Likewise the cost of the Lyseni pirate prince also seems way too high when measured against the national debt in total. --Crackclaw 21:09, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

I belive that why the Hand was so annoyed with it and everyone calling it the "Hand's Tourney". Also this tourney atracted a lot of people from across of westeros, so they probably didnt loose as much as it seems. --Mor 08:16, 9 November 2011 (UTC)
It's the amount of the prize though that is out of proportion. By the standards of the national debt, 40 or 20K would be enough to buy your own army, fleet or a decent sized fiefdom. Yet in the case of Thoros it seems that it just about covered his bar tab. --Crackclaw 22:31, 11 November 2011 (UTC)

The SSM entry for June 19, 1999 makes it clear that Robert is an extravagant fellow when it comes to money, and specifically mentions the Tourney's prizes as an example. LuisDantas 15:21, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

I have to agree that the currency values do seem to be problematic. The conversion to real world currency section implies that the first prize at the tourney, 40,000 Dragons, is equal to €520,000,000. An astronomical amount of money. --Boreas74 19:11, 14 July 2013 (UTC)

"Values" section

The information from the "Values" section currently comes entirely from the RPG from Green Ronin, and contains a coin not even mentioned in the canon, as far as I can find (the silver "moon"). Do we keep using this information, or do we remove it, as none of it is even remotely referenced in the canon works? --Rhaenys Targaryen (talk) 21:56, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
