Pyat Pree the warlock, tells her to come to the House of the Undying to learn of truth from the Warlocks, the merchant prince Xaro Xhoan Daxos lavishes her with gifts, promising her help from the Thirteen, and gives her a wing of his great palace to reside in. When Xaro and Pyat leave, Quaithe the shadowbinder, offers her is cryptic words: to beware all in Qarth, for when they see her dragons they will lust, because dragons are fire incarnate, and fire is power.

Dany then sends Rakharo to get the lay of the city, and Jorah to the docks for news. While they are gone, she bathes and thinks on how she can take back the Seven Kingdoms. She tells herself that the Bleeding Star led her to Qarth for a purpose, and if the gods mean for her to succeed they will send her a sign.

Jorah returns with a ships a trader captain, who brings word of Seven Kingdoms. He tells them that King Robert is dead and that Joffrey rules, but Robert's brothers are gathering their strength to contest the throne. Daenerys promises him a reward if he visits her when she finally sits on her father’s throne. Ser Jorah warns her that Robert’s death changes nothing, but Daenerys disagrees, because the Seven Kingdoms will be in disarray if there is civil war.
