Aegon II was the sixth Targaryen monarch to sit the Iron Throne, succeeding his father, Viserys I.
Appearance
Aegon II resembled his father in appearance, though not in personality. He had only a wispy mustache and a sullen look to his face. He wore the crown of Aegon the Conqueror.[1]
Dance of the Dragons
Aegon's father Viserys I died in 129 AC. Viserys I had intended for his daughter and Aegon's older half sister Rhaenyra to sit the Iron throne. However Criston Cole, Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, later known as the Kingmaker, defied the former king's wishes and backed Aegon instead, having Aegon crowned King. Rhaenyra refused to be denied her crown, disputing Aegon's ascension. The realm split into two factions known as the greens and the blacks, dragon riders took to the skies and a Targaryen civil war known as Dance of the Dragons began.
For unknown reasons Aegon II had Grand Maester Gerardys fed to his dragon.[2]
In unknown circumstances, Rhaenyra was captured, judged a traitor and eaten by Aegon's dragon as he watched.[3] The war continued however as Rhaenyra's supporters continued her cause supporting her son Aegon III. The war and Aegon II's time as king ended in 131 AC with his death under unknown circumstances. Aegon II had no male heirs, which lead to his nephew Aegon III (Rhaenyra's son) ascending to the throne and married Aegon the Second daughter.
