Aethelmure
Title Grand Maester
Book A Game of Thrones (mentioned)

Aethelmure was a Grand Maester of the Citadel.[1] His life was noteworthy enough for a biography to appear in Winterfell's library.

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

While Tyrion Lannister does some reading in the library, Septon Chayle falls asleep over Aethelmure's biography.[1]

When, during a meeting with Grand Maester Pycelle, Eddard Stark suggests to him that Jon Arryn could have been poisoned, the Grand Maester rebuffs him, asking who would do such a thing. Pycelle tells him that they are not the Free Cities where such things are common and quotes Aethelmure's view on a person who would stoop to using poison.[2]

Quotes

...all men carry murder in their hearts, yet even so, the poisoner is beneath contempt.[2]
