Anya Waynwood is Lady of Ironoaks and head of House Waynwood.[4] She is widowed[2] and has three sons: Morton, Donnel and Wallace, and an unspecified number of daughters, granddaughters, and grandsons.[3] Her wards include the young Harrold Hardyng, her cousin and the heir-presumptive of the Vale of Arryn, and Cynthea Frey, whose mother was Carolei Waynwood.[5] In the television adaptation Game of Thrones, Anya is portrayed by Paola Dionisotti.

Appearance and Character

The slim Anya has greying brown hair, loose skin beneath her chin, and crows-feet around her eyes.[4][6]

Lady Waynwood is stern[6] but courteous.[4]

Anya's mantle is deep green with the broken wheel of House Waynwood picked out in beads of jet.[4] Her riding cloak is heavy green wool trimmed with brown fur, and her broken wheel brooch is niello.[6]

History

Lord Nestor Royce hoped to marry his daughter, Myranda, to Harrold Hardyng, but Lady Waynwood refused. She does not want her ward to marry against his will. Myranda thinks that Harry might marry one of Anya's granddaughters.[3]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Lady Anya is present in the High Hall of the Eyrie, surrounded by her sons, when Tyrion Lannister demands a trial by battle to prove his innocence of the claims against him.[2]

A Feast for Crows

Anya is one of the Lords Declarant who swear to drive Lord Petyr Baelish out of the Vale and to protect their young lord, Robert Arryn. After signing a declaration at Runestone,[7] they gather six thousand men to the Gates of the Moon, demanding that Petyr give up his position of Lord Protector of the Vale and leave the province.[4]

Petyr invites the Lords to the Eyrie for negotiations. Petyr has secretly bribed one of them, Ser Lyn Corbray, to draw his sword, Lady Forlorn, at the meeting. Anya finds Lyn's actions dishonorable, which gives Petyr an edge in the negotiations. Petyr asks for a year to set things right in the Vale, which the lords agree to.[4] Afterward, Petyr confides in Sansa that the elderly Lady Waynwood might be dead in a year.[4]

Anya is present at the wedding of Lord Lyonel Corbray in Gulltown. This is unexpected because Lyonel is an adherent of Lord Baelish and the other Lords Declarant shun the wedding, aside from Lord Benedar Belmore and Ser Symond Templeton. Petyr explains to Sansa Stark that he has bought up the debts of the Waynwoods and persuaded Anya to give permission for Sansa to wed her ward, Harrold Hardyng, if Harry agrees.[3]

Lady Anya, her son Ser Wallace and grandson Ser Roland, and her ward Ser Harrold Hardyng, attend the tourney for the Brotherhood of Winged Knights at the Gates of the Moon. Sansa, who is disguised as "Alayne Stone", greets them when they arrive, and Myranda Royce directs the Waynwoods to the East Tower. Anya has Harry insist upon dancing with Alayne at the feast.[6]

Quotes by Anya

Petyr: Robert should have an older boy about him too. A promising young squire, say. Someone he could admire and try to emulate. You have such a boy at Ironoaks, my lady. Perhaps you might agree to send me Harrold Hardyng.
Anya: Lord Petyr, you are as bold a thief as I'd ever care to meet.[4]

Petyr Baelish and Anya

None of us wants war. Autumn wanes, and we must gird ourselves for winter.[4]
