Baelor Blacktyde is the Lord of Blacktyde and the head of House Blacktyde. Baelor captains the Nightflyer.[3]

Appearance

Baelor is smooth-faced and handsome.[3] He wears a lambswool tunic of black-and-green vairy, and he pins his sable cloak with a silver seven-pointed star.[3]

History

Baelor's father, Lord Blacktyde, died during the rebellion launched by Balon Greyjoy, Lord of the Iron Islands. After the war, Baelor spent eight years as a hostage in Oldtown. By the time he came back to the Iron Islands, he had converted to the Faith of the Seven. To this day, Baelor still resents Balon for his father's death, calling him "Balon the Widowmaker".[3]

Balon sent Tristifer Botley to ward with Baelor after Tris was caught playing with Balon's daughter, Asha Greyjoy.[4]

Recent Events

A Feast for Crows

Lord Baelor stops at Ten Towers to consult with Lord Rodrik Harlaw before making his way to Old Wyk for the kingsmoot.[4] At the kingsmoot, he asks Victarion Greyjoy if he would end the war. Baelor moves on when Victarion rejects the idea.[3] He is one of the first to shout Asha Greyjoy's name at the kingsmoot.[5]

After Euron Greyjoy is raised as King of the Iron Islands at the kingsmoot, Baelor refuses to acknowledge Euron and attempts to return to Blacktyde. Victarion closes Nagga's Cradle with the Iron Fleet and captures Nightflyer, however, and Baelor is taken and delivered to King Euron in chains. As punishment for his refusal to acknowledge his new liege, Baelor is cut by Euron's crew into seven pieces, representing the Faith of the Seven.[2] Euron claims Baelor's sable cloak for himself.[2]

Quotes by Baelor

Balon was mad, Aeron is madder, and Euron is maddest of them all.[3]

—Baelor to Victarion Greyjoy

Quotes about Baelor

Lord Blacktyde says this kingsmoot is a dangerous folly. He thinks your uncle will descend on them and kill them all, as Urron did.[4]
