Ser Bernarr Brune was a knight from House Brune[N 1] during the reigns of the kings Aenys I Targaryen and Maegor I Targaryen. He was the squire of Lord Alyn Stokeworth, the last Hand of the King for King Aegon I Targaryen.[2]

History

Bernarr squired for Lord Alyn Stokeworth, who was the Hand of the King for the newly crowned King Aenys I Targaryen in 37 AC. When Lord Alyn was slain by the rebel Harren the Red, Bernarr avenged him by killing Harren. Bernarr was rewarded with a knighthood by the grateful King Aenys.[2]

In 42 AC, Ser Bernarr was present at Visenya's Hill when King Maegor I Targaryen was challenged by Ser Damon Morrigen, Grand Captain of the Warrior's Sons, to a trial of seven to settle his legitimacy to the Iron Throne. Bernarr kept quiet when Maegor called upon those who would stand beside him but was shamed into action by the volunteering of Dick Bean, a simple man-at-arms. Ser Bernarr spoke out, offering to stand beside King Maegor and noting that all present were no true knights. Bernarr's appeal succeeded and many offered their swords.[2]

During the fight against the Warrior's Sons, Ser Bernarr was killed.[2]

Quotes by Bernarr

This bean shames us all! Are there no true knights here? No leal men?[2]
