Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

He is one of the guests at the dinner organized by the Lord Commander Jeor Mormont on the eve of Tyrion Lannister's departure.[2] He accompanies Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly, who have been assigned to stewardship, when they pronounce their vows in the weirwood circle in the Haunted Forest beyond the Wall.

A Clash of Kings

Bowen Marsh is assigned as Castellan of Castle Black by Lord Commander Jeor Mormont while the Great Ranging took place.

A Storm of Swords

After Lord Commander Jeor Mormont's death, he temporarily took command of the Night's Watch until the election of a new Lord Commander. He left Castle Black to face a diversion by the wildlings who lead him to the Bridge of Skulls. There, he confronted the Weeper and inflicted upon him a bloody defeat, but costing heavy losses to the Night's Watch. Injured, he was healed at the Shadow Tower and brought back to Castle Black by Ser Denys Mallister. He supported Janos Slynt after his own defeat in the election of the new Lord Commander.

A Feast for Crows

Marsh returns to his steward duties when Jon Snow is elected Lord Commander.

A Dance with Dragons

Marsh at first is helpful to the new Lord Commander but becomes increasing angry with his decisions such as making the a baseborn lad, Satin, as the Lord Commander's new steward, appointing a Wildling as the new Master-at-Arms at Castle Black and allowing Wildlings to join the watch and diminish the food supply. The final straw for Marsh is when Snow read aloud the letter sent by Ramsay Bolton and stated his intention to march on House Bolton threatening the neutrality of the Nights Watch. Marsh and several of his followers stab Jon Snow several times. As Marsh stabs him, tears stream down his face and he says

"For the Watch". [3]
