Title Ser
Allegiances
Books

Ser Clayton Suggs is a queen's man, previously a hedge knight.[1] Hailing from Flea Bottom, he is cruel and enjoys torturing, especially women, and it is rumored his love for the Lord of Light is only love of human sacrifice.

His personal coat of arms is a winged pig [2]

Appearance

He is a short burly man with a balding head and a mouthful of broken brown teeth. He has a deep voice.

Recent Events

A Feast for Crows

Ser Clayton is sworn to King Stannis I. He is among the knights who went north to the Wall with him.[3]

A Dance with Dragons

Ser Clayton Suggs is among those who march with Stannis on Deepwood Motte then Winterfell.

He has been called the crony and the strong right arm of Ser Godry . Suggs states that Hornwood, Cerwyn, Tallhart, Ryswell and Dustin are all traitors and lapdogs of the Lannisters.

When Stannis dismisses his men during a meeting with Jon Snow Clayton Suggs drains his cup dry and mutters something to Harwood Fell that makes him laugh, boy was part of it. Jon Snow considers Suggs an upjumped hedge knight "as crude as he was strong".[1] Suggs agreed with Ser Godry when he suggested they should burn someone to appease R'hllor and end the blizzard. Asha Greyjoy knew he wanted to burn her.

Asha does not like Clayton Suggs; to her he seems simply cruel. Suggs insults and goads Asha constantly. She has seen him at the nightfires, watching, his lips parted and his eyes avid. She concludes to herself that it is not the god he loves, it is the flames. When she asked Ser Justin Massey if Suggs had always been that way, Massey grimaces and says,

On Dragonstone he would gamble with the torturers and lend them a hand in the questioning of prisoners, especially if the prisoner were a young woman.

Asha is not surprised. She does not doubt that Suggs would take a special delight in burning her.

When four of Peasebury’s men were caught committing cannibalism they were burned alive as a sacrifice to R’hllor, except the serjeant, who threw insults to goad Suggs into killing him preferring a knife. Suggs never said a word, one quick slash opened the serjeant’s throat, sending a wash of blood down his chest.

After the men are burnt he again goads Asha, asking if the iron cunt enjoyed the show. His breath stinks of ale and onions and she sees he has pig eyes. She thinks he has a face that cries out for an axe between those eyes.

Later when Sugg’s finds her alone looking at the burned corpses of the sacrificed men he insults her. Asha wonders why he is always calling her a cunt, as men like Suggs use that word to demean women when it is the only part of a woman they value. She thinks to herself that Suggs is worse than Middle Liddle as when he says the word, he means it. She reminds Suggs that Stannis gelds men for rape and he laughs saying he’d sooner see her burn.

Suddenly they hear riders. Suggs rips his longsword from its scabbard and tells her to run and warn the king, as he assumes it Roose Bolton’s host upon them. Asha notes that a brute he might be but Suggs does not lack courage. However the riders turn out to be Tycho Nestoris of the Iron Bank of Braavos and his escort, some of which are Asha’s ironborn men.

The Winds of Winter

Ser Clayton Suggs is present along with Ser Godry Farring and Richard Horpe when Stannis interrogates Tybald about his loyalties. Stannis has Ser Clayton threaten violence on the maester to make Tybald tell him everything.[4]
