Daeron Velaryon was a member of House Velaryon. He was married to Lady Hazel of House Harte. Their only child together was Lady Daenaera Velaryon, who would become the queen consort of King Aegon III Targaryen[3] and the mother of his five children.[4] His grandson, King Daeron I Targaryen, was presumably named after him.

History

Daeron was the second son of Ser Vaemond Velaryon and his lady wife.[5] In 126 AC, Lord Corlys Velaryon's named grandsons by his son Ser Laenor Velaryon and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen his heirs. Vaemond protested this decision by declaring Laenor's sons to be bastards of Ser Harwin Strong, however Rhaenyra had Prince Daemon Targaryen murder Vaemond. Vaemond's younger cousins fled to King's Landing with Daeron and his brother Daemion to seek justice from King Viserys I Targaryen, but the elder Velaryon cousins had their tongues removed.[6][7]

In 132 AC, following the death of Lord Corlys, Daeron and Daemion contested the claim of their illegitimate cousin Alyn Velaryon as Lord of the Tides and put forth their own claims before the council of regents in King's Landing. When the Hand of the King, Ser Tyland Lannister, and the regents ruled against them, they chose to accept the decision and be reconciled with Lord Alyn, who rewarded them with lands on Driftmark on the condition that they contribute ships to his fleet.[5]

During the Daughters' War, Daeron joined his cousin Alyn in the attack on the Braavosi fleet in the Stepstones, stationed around Bloodstone. The attack was a complete victory for the Velaryon fleet, but Daeron perished when his ship True Heart went down in battle against the Braavosi.[1][3]
