Granite is a type of rock, commonly used for sculpture and as a building material.

Description

Granite exists in different colors such as grey[1] and black.[2] It is softer than the Dragonstone used by the Valyrians in their constructions.[3]

Culture

Winterfell is built with grey granite. Its massive double walls,[1] its Great Keep,[1] the pillars,[4] tombs,[5] and statues[6] of the crypt are all made with granite.

Granite can be found on both side of the Wall in the Frostfangs[2] and the Northern mountains,[7] as well as on the shores of Great Wyk.[8]

The walls and the triple towers of the main keep of the seat of House Hollard were made of grey granite.[9]

The monuments and houses of Braavos are made of grey granite, whereas the legs and lower torso of the Titan and the islands surronding the city are made of black granite.[10]

The middle wall of the triple walls of Qarth is made of grey granite and decorated with scenes of war.[11]
