The Great Barrow is a large, grassy hill at Barrowton in the north. The surrounding barrowlands are flat and windswept. Barrow Hall, the castle of House Dustin, is built on the barrow.[1]

Culture

According to folklore the Great Barrow contains the grave of the First King of the First Men or a King of the Giants.[2] Maester Kennet's Passages of the Dead mentions a curse was supposedly placed on the Great Barrow allowing none to rival the First King. The curse is said to have weakened and made corpselike any living man who pretended to the title, such as the Barrow Kings. Maesters doubt the legend.[3]

History

Lord Dustin showed the barrow of the First King to King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen in 58 AC.[4]
