Greydon was a Grand Maester of the Citadel who wrote a definitive history of the Triarchy in 182 AC, fifty-three years after the beginning of the Dance of the Dragons.[1] Greydon presumably served in the small council of King Aegon IV Targaryen, who ruled from 172–184 AC.

1It is unknown whether "...sweet Matarys and Valarr, the Hand." indicates that Valarr was Hand, or that Matarys, Valarr, and an unnamed Hand of the King died during the Spring Sickness.
