A Game of Thrones
Ser Hobber took part in the Tourney of the Hand in King's Landing.[4] He remained in King's Landing after the death of King Robert I.[5]
A Clash of Kings
Kept as a hostage for the good behavior of his father, Lord Paxter, Ser Hobber remained in King's Landing after fighting broke out with the North. Ser Hobber was unhorsed in the Tourney for King Joffrey's 13th Name Day by Ser Meryn Trant after breaking their first lances.[6] Ser Hobber and his brother, Ser Horas, attempted to sneak out of King's Landing via the Moonrunner but the plot was discovered and halted by Varys and Tyrion Lannister.[7]
Lord Paxter refrained from joining his forces to that of Renly Baratheon because his sons, Ser Hobber and Ser Horas, were being held hostage in King's Landing. After Renly's death, Hobber was allowed to accompany Petyr Baelish on his mission to recruit the Reachmen at Bitterbridge while Horas remained in captivity.[8] This show of good faith allowed Lord Paxter to ride with the Tyrell host to defend the capitol.
A Storm of Swords
Ser Hobber attended the wedding of Margaery Tyrell and King Joffrey I. Ser Hobber was called as a witness for the prosecution in the trial of Tyrion Lannister for the death of King Joffrey I. He told of how he saw Tyrion fill the wedding chalice.[9]
A Feast for Crows
Ser Hobber, Ser Horas and their father, Lord Paxter Redwyne all attended the funeral of Lord Tywin Lannister.[10] The twins are both said to fall in love with Margaery Tyrell, forgetting their arguments over who would be the next Lord of the Arbor and instead wanting to join the Kingsguard just to be near her.[11]. Horas and Hobber visit with Queen Margaery often, with Hobber bringing fruit and flowers and Horas taking up the lute.[12] Queen Cersei had an arrest warrant signed for Ser Hobber as part of her plans to remove Margaery. He was given comfortable rooms after his arrest.[13]
