House Durrandon was the house of the Storm Kings from the stormlands.[1] Its seat was Storm's End; an ancient castle raised by Durran Godsgrief, the founder of their line. The Durrandon sigil was a crowned black stag on a field of gold.[2] Their words were Ours is the Fury. Both sigil and words were adopted by House Baratheon, who descend from House Durrandon through the female line, in the War of Conquest.

History

The line of the Storm Kings dates back to the Age of Heroes when their kingdom was founded by King Durran I "Godsgrief", a legendary hero. The Storm Kings once ruled much of the eastern half of Westeros, an area reaching from Cape Wrath to the Bay of Crabs. Their dominion was protected from Dorne and the Kingdom of the Reach by the Dornish Marches, and they conquered the riverlands from House Teague.

For several centuries before the War of Conquest, however, their power had dwindled. They had the Kings of the Reach at their west, who nibbled at their domains, and Dornishmen at their south. Harren the Black had taken over the Trident, and those lands above the Blackwater Rush. King Argilac Durrandon had managed to stop this decline of land for a while. By the time of the Conquest, however, Argilac had grown old and his prowess at arms had faded.[3]

During the War of Conquest, Orys Baratheon, one of Aegon I Targaryen's fiercest generals, and rumored to be his bastard brother, slew Argilac the Arrogant, last of the Storm Kings, and married his daughter, Argella.[1] Orys adopted the sigil and words of his wife's ancestral line, so creating House Baratheon of Storm's End, with his descendants having the blood of the Durrandons flowing in their veins.[4]
