Ser Karyl Vance is a knight of House Vance of Wayfarer's Rest. He has three daughters, Liane, Rhialta, and Emphyria.

Appearance
Ser Karyl would be handsome except for his winestain birthmark which discolours one side of his face and half his neck.[2] He has sad eyes[3] and a melancholy look.[2]
Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Ser Karyl is sent to King's Landing with Ser Marq Piper and Ser Raymun Darry to receive the king's permission to hunt down the Lannister men who had been raiding the Riverlands. Lord Eddard Stark, Hand of the King, agrees and sends a party to arrest Ser Gregor Clegane.[3] After the Battle of the Golden Tooth, Karyl raids across the Red Fork of the Trident.[4] He is named Lord of Wayfarer's Rest after the death of his father at the Battle of the Golden Tooth. The new Lord Karyl is in the list of nobles King Joffrey Baratheon declares must do him homage or be named traitors to the realm.[5]
A Clash of Kings
Lord Karyl departs Riverrun to defend his lands with permission from his liege lord, Ser Edmure Tully.[6] Karyl commands the defense of fords upstream from Riverrun in the Battle of the Fords.[7]
A Storm of Swords
Lord Karyl is among the seven nobles who launch the funeral boat of Lord Hoster Tully.[8]
A Feast for Crows
Lord Karyl bent the knee after the Red Wedding. He is one of the reluctant river lords who join with House Lannister in besieging Riverrun, and he participates in Jaime Lannister's war council.[2]
