High King of the Iron Islands is the ancient title of the rulers of the Iron Islands and the Ironborn.

Initially the Ironking was elected at a Kingsmoot by the captains of the Ironfleet. However this tradition ended thousands of years ago and the Ironborn were ruled over by House Hoare ever since. During the reign of King Qhored Hoare, the Ironborn held much of the western shore over the centuries including Arbor, Oldtown and Bear Island. Harren the Black was the last King of the Iron Islands, he died during the War of Conquest in Harrenhal by Aegon the Conquerer dragons. Later Balon Greyjoy declared himself King of the Iron Islands, in what was later called the Greyjoy Rebellion and was put down by Robert I and he subjected to the Seven Kingdoms, during the War of the Five Kings, Balon recrowned himself but was slain less then a year later. His brother Aeron Greyjoy called a Kingsmoot calling for the selection of a new King. This led to the crowning of Euron Greyjoy.
