Lancel IV Lannister, formally styled Lancel Lannister, the Fourth of His Name, was a King of the Rock of House Lannister of Casterly Rock.

History

He is said to have beheaded the ironborn king Harrald Halfdrowned and his heir with a single stroke of Brightroar, the Valyrian steel greatsword of House Lannister, during the Battle of Lann's Point.[1]

When King Gyles III Gardener, King of the Reach, was battling the Storm King in the east, Lancel IV attempted to cut a piece out of the Reach for himself. According to Ser Eustace Osgrey, his ancestor, Ser Wilbert Osgrey, the Little Lion, fought against King Lancel and managed to kill him, after Lancel had mortally wounded him with his Valyrian steel sword, Brightroar.[2] Ser Eustace claims the westermen returned home after Lancel's death, as they did not want to fight on after the death of their king.[2] Maester Yandel writes that King Gyles III halted his own conquest and returned home to the Reach to deal with Lancel's westermen.[3] Had Lancel not invaded the Reach, King Gyles III might have been able to complete his conquest in the stormlands.[3] Lancel IV died at Red Lake.[1]
