History

The Lords of Raventree Hall claimed the title of River King during the Age of Heroes and became bitter rivals with their neighbor, the Bracken kings of Stone Hedge.[4]

Lord Roderick Blackwood led a rebellion against his king, Humfrey I Teague, when he attempted to supress worship of the Old Gods. Roderick's son-in-law, King Arlan III Durrandon, led a stormlander host to help Lord Roderick and faced King Humfrey in the Battle of Six Kings. Roderick died in the battle and was succeded by his son as Lord of Raventree Hall while Arlan added the riverlands to his domain.[13]

Three centuries later, the domination of the riverlands passed to King Harwyn Hoare of the Iron Islands after he defeated Arlan's descendant, King Arrec Durrandon. Lady Agnes Blackwood and her sons marched against King Harwyn's ironborn but were attacked from behind by Lord Lothar Bracken and later executed when Lothar delivered them to Harwyn.[13]

Targaryen Era

During Aegon's Conquest, Lord Blackwood joined Lord Edmyn Tully and other riverlords who rebelled against King Harren Hoare, Harwyn's grandson.[14]

In 79 AC, Queen Alysanne Targaryen along with Lord Blackwood made preparations for the betrothal of her daughter, Princess Daella Targaryen to Lord Blackwood's son, Royce Blackwood. Unfortunatly, Daella got afraid when she learned the Blackwoods worshipped the Old Gods and the betrothal was called off.[15]

Lord Blackwood supported Laenor Velaryon's claim to the Iron Throne at the Great Council of 101 AC.[16]

Lord Samwell Blackwood declared for the blacks at the start of the Dance of the Dragons.[17] Samwell was killed by Ser Amos Bracken in single combat during the Battle of the Burning Mill, but Amos was then struck down by a weirwood arrow allegedly fired by Samwell's sister, Black Aly.[18] Samwell was succeeded by his eleven-year-old son, Benjicot Blackwood.[7] Despite his young age, Lord Benjicot led the Blackwood men into battle for the rest of the war. He alongside Lord Elmo Tully and his brother Ser Oscar Tully were called the Lads by their men.[19]

After the war Lord Benjicot organized, with the help of his aunt Alysanne, a Widow Fair at Raventree. He later accompanied her to Winterfell where she married Lord Cregan Stark.[8]

During the reign of King Aegon III Targaryen, Lord Benjicot and a thousand Blackwood men supported Ser Robert Rowan's campaign to end the civil war in the Vale of Arryn.[8] Benjicot and Lord Alyn Velaryon eventually forced the other claimants to accept Joffrey Arryn as Lord of the Eyrie.[20] Lord Benjicot was present at the Great Council of 136 AC and could have become Aegon's new Hand if not for his young age.[20]

In 206 AC, Lord Quentyn Blackwood was killed in a tourney by Ser Otho Bracken which reignited the feud between the Blackwoods and Brackens.[21]

In 212 AC, Lord Blackwood was part of the army taken to Whitewalls by Lord Brynden Rivers.[22]
