Recent Events
A Game of Thrones
Ser Meryn Trant accompanied King Robert I to Winterfell to name his new Hand of the King, Lord Eddard Stark.[1] He participates in the Tourney of the Hand, defeating Harwin.[2] He was defeated in the tourney by Ser Loras Tyrell.[3] He is sent to apprehend Arya Stark when Lord Eddard was arrested but was prevented from doing so by Syrio Forel.[4] He was used by Joffrey to beat Sansa Stark into obedience.[5]
A Clash of Kings
Ser Meryn rode in the joust during the Tourney for King Joffrey's 13th Name Day. There he broke two lances with Ser Hobber Redwyne, unhorsing him on the second pass.[6] Ser Meryn survived the riot in King's Landing when the procession he was a part of was attacked on its return to the Red Keep after seeing Princess Myrcella off to Dorne.[7] He guarded King Joffrey I during the Battle of the Blackwater.
A Storm of Swords
He was ordered by Queen Cersei to bring Sansa Stark to the sept to marry Tyrion Lannister. During the trial of Tyrion for the death of King Joffrey, Ser Meryn recounted the story of Tyrion beating King Joffrey after the riot and told the judges of more episodes where Tyrion had threatened the life of King Joffrey.[8]
A Feast for Crows
Ser Meryn guarded the apartments of the Hand of the King after the body of Lord Tywin Lannister was found until the arrival of Queen Cersei.[9]
A Dance with Dragons
Is present at the Red keep when Cersei completes her walk of penance.
Appearance
He has droopy eyes and a red beard.[10] Ser Jaime Lannister considers him sly and cruel.[11]
