Nefer is a city in the Further East of Essos at the mouth of a river and the Shivering Sea. North of Nefer are the Thousand Islands.[1] It is the last remaining city and capital of the kingdom N'Ghai due to the constant raids from the Jogos Nhai[2]

Nefer is hemmed in by towering chalk cliffs and perpetually shrouded in fog. When seen from the harbor, it appears to be no more than a small town, but it is said that nine-tenths of the city is beneath the ground. For this reason, travelers call Nefer the Secret City.[3]

The city enjoys a sinister reputation as a haunt of necromancers and torturers[3]

History

Corlys Velaryon was the first Westerosi to visit Nefer.[4]

Behind the Scenes

Nefer has not yet been mentioned in the A Song of Ice and Fire novels, only appearing in The Lands of Ice and Fire and A World of Ice and Fire.
