History
When his cousin, Lord Jon Connington, went to King's Landing to attend Prince Rhaegar Targaryen, Ronald was made castellan of Griffin's Roost.[1] Lord Jon was exiled by King Aerys II Targaryen during Robert's Rebellion, following the loss at the Battle of the Bells in the riverlands, and stripped of his lands, titles, and wealth.[2][1] Griffin's Roost next passed to Ronald.[1] Ronald joined the rebellion, but following the conclusion of the war, the new King Robert I Baratheon completed the destruction of House Connington which Aerys II had begun; While Ronald was allowed to keep both his head and Griffin's Roost, he lost his lordship and a lot of the Connington wealth, while nine-tenths of the Connnington lands were given to neighboring lords who had been more fervent supporters to Robert's claim.[1][2] This reduced Ronald to a landed knight,[2] carrying the title Knight of Griffin's Roost.[1]
Ronald once attempted to betroth his eldest son, Ronnet, to Brienne Tarth, the daughter and heir to Lord Selwyn Tarth of Tarth. Though Ronnet objected, stating that he had heard how ugly Brienne was, Ronald would not relent. Ronnet did eventually travel to Tarth to meet with Brienne, but informed her immediately that he had no interest in marrying her.[2]
Ronald was eventually succeeded as the Knight of Griffin's Roost by his heir, Ronnet.[1]
