Born In Between 248 AL and 258 AL [1]
Died In 300 AL, Near the Twins
Books

Ser Ryman Frey is the eldest son of Ser Stevron Frey. He is a portly man of great appetites, prone to gluttony, drunkenness, and whoring. Unlike his father, he never received Lord Walder's grooming on family values.[2] His face is broad and fleshy.[3] He is reported to have a bad belly.[4]

History

Ser Ryman participated in the Tourney at Lannisport, the tourney that was held to celebrate Robert I's victory in the Greyjoy Rebellion. He was defeated by the eventual champion, Lord Jorah Mormont.[5]

Recent Events

A Game of Thrones

Ser Ryman was at the Twins when Catelyn Tully came to treat with his grandfather, Lord Walder Frey.

A Clash of Kings

Ser Ryman is among the Freys with Robb Stark's army in the west.[6]

A Storm of Swords

Ryman became heir to the Crossing after his father's death. After Robb Stark married Jeyne Westerling, slighting House Frey, he struck Robb's banner and led his forces back to the Twins.[7]

Ser Ryman received Robb Stark at the Twins for the wedding of Edmure Tully. During the feast he sat next to Catelyn and drank a lot of wine. When the Freys attacked their guests, Ser Ryman killed Dacey Mormont.[8] After the Red Wedding, Ser Ryman took two thousand spears and was to meet up with Ser Daven Lannister and Ser Forley Prester to begin the siege of Riverrun.[9]

A Feast for Crows

As heir of Lord Walder, Ser Ryman commanded the Frey forces at the siege of Riverrun. He left the planning to his son Edwyn, so he could spend his time drinking and whoring, even going so far as to give Robb's crown to one of his prostitutes. His poor behavior and inept leadership disgusted Jaime Lannister to such a degree that he removed Ryman from his position. On Ryman's journey back to the Twins, he was captured and hanged by the Brotherhood Without Banners, led at the time by the vengeful Catelyn Stark.[10]
