Daemon and Rhaenyra Targaryen sail to King's Landing to support Lucerys' claim before the Iron Throne.

King's Landing

On order of Ser Otto Hightower, no party is sent to receive Rhaenyra and her family at the entrance of the Red Keep. After a moment Lord Allun Caswell comes alone to greet their arrival, however. On their way to see King Viserys, Rhaenyra and Daemon observes that the Targaryen and Valyrian decoration in the castle as being replaced by imagery from the Faith of the Seven. They see Viserys and introduce him to their two sons, Aegon and Viserys. The king's health has deteriorated a lot these past few years leaving him bedridden and a frequent drinker of milk of the poppy to ease his pain. In Viserys' absence, the small council led by Ser Otto and Queen Alicent Hightower has ruled the realm.

Leaving a meeting of the small council, Alicent is alerted by Ser Erryk Cargyll of the Kingsguard that her eldest son, Prince Aegon Targaryen, has raped Dyana, one of his siter-wife's serving girl. After making sure Dyana would not speak of what happen and forced her to drink moon tea, Alicent confronts Aegon about his behavior. Alicent then greets Rhaenyra and Daemon and informs them that her father and her will judge on the question of the Velaryon succession on the morrow.

Jace and Luke visits the training yard where they reunites with Ser Criston Cole and their uncle, Prince Aemond Targaryen. Meanwhile, Rhaenyra along with Lady Rhaena meets with Princess Rhaenys Targaryen. Rhaenyra asks for her support in the Velaryon matter and proposes to betroth Jace to Baela and Luke to Rhaena. Rhaenys does not commit to an answer as she still thinks Rhaenyra was involved in the death of her son, Ser Laenor Velaryon. During the night, Rhaenyra visists her father one last time to ask for his support citing his own word of unity and the prophetic dream of Aegon the Conqueror.

On the next morning, Ser Otto hears the petitions from the claimants to Driftmark until King Viserys enters the throne room and takes place on the Iron Throne. He rules in favor of Prince Lucerys to the disapproval of Vaemond. He gets angry and publicly calls Rhaenyra a whore and her sons bastards. Viserys demands his tongue to be removed but Daemon decapits him with Dark Sister before this can be done.

King Viserys and his entire family are gathered in the evening for supper. He pleads his kin to cease their infighting and for a time they enjoy an happy evening together. After Viserys' pain resurfaces and he goes to bed, the tension arises anew, however. Rhaenyra and her family leave and return to Dragonstone. In bed, Viserys is delirious due to the milk of the poppy and confuses Alicent for Rhaenyra. He tells her about Aegon's dream but Alicent interprets Viserys' words as meaning he changed his mind and now wants their son Aegon to inherit the Iron Throne. She leaves Viserys' chamber as the king dies alone during the night.
