The trade tongue or trade talk is the language of the wharves and docks and sailor's taverns. It a coarse jumble of words and phrases from a dozen languages, accompanied by hand signs and gestures, most of them insulting.[1] It is a guttural sailor's pidgin.[2]
Sothoryi who dwell closest to the sea are said to have learned the Trade Talk.[3]
