Val is a wildling. She is the sister of Dalla, the wife of Mance Rayder.[1]

Character and Appearance

She is a beautiful woman with blonde hair.[2] She has pale grey eyes with high sharp cheekbones. She is slender with a full bosom.[3] Val is resourceful brave and strong willed.

Recent Events

A Storm of Swords

She "stole" Jarl, a wildling raider. She was present in the tent when Jon Snow was presented to Mance Rayder.[4] When the wildling host is broken in the battle of Castle Black, Val is taken prisoner. Stannis offered her hand to Jon in a marriage if he agreed to become Lord of Winterfell, but Jon refused.

A Dance with Dragons

Many of the men of the Night's Watch and the men from the army of Stannis are smitten with Val's beauty. Jon sends Val on a mission to bring peace terms to Tormund Giantbane, and she succeeds.

She is presented to Queen Selyse and her daughter Shireen. Val is weary of Shireen because of her greyscale, and mentions to Jon that the child is "unclean" and should be killed. This horrifies Jon, and is grateful that neither the Queen nor her men heard Val when she said it.
