Varly is a member of the household guard of Lord Eddard Stark at Winterfell.

Varly accompanies Lord Eddard Stark to King's Landing when Eddard is named Hand of the King to Robert I Baratheon.[1]
Varlys and Jacks make up the escort for Eddard when he visits the armorer Tobho Mott and discovers Gendry, one of King Robert's bastard children.[1]
Varly's throat is slashed by Janos Slynt when Eddard is arrested in the throne room.[2]
