Wildfire is a volatile liquid that can burn for a long time. A thin layer of wildfire can burn for an hour.[1] It is typically commissioned for use as a weapon of war, though Alchemists will sometimes use wildfire torches as a display of power. The red priest, Thoros of Myr, fights with a sword covered in a thin layer of wildfire.

It is created by the Alchemists' Guild in what they claim is a magical process. The wildfire jars are created in a series of bare stone cell. Over each cell lies a room filled with sand and a "spell" on the floor so that should anything happen, the sand will fall on the fire and help it extinguish.[2] Alchemists typically refer to it as "the substance". Wildfire can be set aflame with the smallest spark, and sometimes even by the heat of sunlight. As it ages, it becomes even more volatile. For protection purposes, the Alchemists put the old, wildfire-soaked clay jars in a vault full of water to avoid explosion.[3] Once wildfire is lit, it burns with green flames that are almost impossible to extinguish. Wildfire will seep into many materials, making them flammable as well. Great quantities of wildfire can explode with tremendous force.
