The Wyl of Wyl, also known as the Widow-lover, was the Lord of Wyl and head of House Wyl during the reign of Aegon the Conquerer. His give name is not mentioned by Maester Yandel. The Widow-lover had at least one son, Walter Wyl.
History
In the First Dornish War, Lord Wyl ambushed the forces of Lord Orys Baratheon as they tried to assault the Boneway. The cunning Dornishmen launched a night raid, raining rocks, arrows and spears from above. The bodies of the invading army blocked the Boneway from both ends and Orys was captured by the Wyl of Wyl.
The Targaryens received a ransom offer for Lord Orys along with all his knights and bannermen. King Aegon I Targaryen eventually agreed to the demands and Orys and his men were ransomed in 7 AC for each man's weight in gold. When the captives were freed, however, the Wyl had their sword hands chopped off so they could not be used again against Dorne. This was not part of the agreement of the terms and enraged Aegon.[1]
Yandel also states that the Wyl of Wyl committed infamous deeds which are still remembered in Fawnton and Old Oak, but he does not go into detail.[1]
