What to do when you want to add to this page?
  • Is the calculation necessary?
    • Several years of birth or death are specifically stated in the canon work. Is your character not in there? Then he/she is a candidate.
  • Make certain you always put in references when you add something.
  • When you add a calculation, add your results to the character's wiki-page.
  • Does your addition replace the first name underneath a navigation box? Go to the template page to adjust the navigation box, to keep the interlinking up to date.
  • You don't want to add, but you still think a character is missing in the list? Go here and share your thoughts!

In the main series and novellas, George R.R. Martin on most occasions does not state specifically in which year a character has been born or has died. This page lists the calculations to determine such years, years of birth mostly, but also years of death at times, as specific as is possible, for all characters for all this is possible. This information then can be used in articles and serves to give a more complete image of the world of A Song of Ice and Fire.

The following guidelines are used for the calculations:

  • A character, both male and female, will be at least 12 years old at the birth of his or her first born child, for the following reason: a girl who has had her first flowering (i.e. first menstruation) is considered to be fit for both marriage and consummation of the marriage.[1] Most highborn girls have their first flowering at the age of twelve or thirteen,[2] indicating twelve as the youngest a girl can be for getting pregnant, and, as such, give birth. For boys, the same minimum age is used. Furthermore, we are given the precedence of the age of twelve for both males and females: the daughter of Unwin Peake died in childbirth at the age of twelve,[3] while Viserys II Targaryen impregnated his wife at the age of twelve.[4]
  • Siblings are assumed to be at least one year apart in age, taking into consideration that a woman who has just given birth will not immediately become pregnant again. This is only when discussing full-blood siblings. For siblings with the same father, but with a different mother, no such recovery period is required.
  • Where historic works are concerned which have been written by maesters, or sources recited from works written by maesters, it can be assumed that the age of a character stated in a year is the age that character would be turning that year. For example, Maegor I Targaryen was born in 12 AC. In historic works, his age in the year 25 AC will be stated as thirteen (the age he would be turning that year), without the author taking into account whether or not the described event took place before or after Maegor's nameday.[5] This goes for historical works (i.e. The Sons of the Dragon, The Rogue Prince, The Princess and the Queen, Fire & Blood, and The World of Ice & Fire), not for POV-information, like A Game of Thrones and its sequels, or The Hedge Knight, and other tales of Dunk & Egg. Do note that on some occasions, this rule might not apply.
  • The following minimum ages for pages, squires, and knights are used, based on an overview of known ages:
    • Boys are considered to be at least six years old when becoming a page.[6]
    • Boys are considered to be at least eight years old when becoming a squire.[7]
    • Men are considered to be at least fifteen years old when becoming a knight.[8]

The characters are listed alphabetically, using full names. Maesters (like Aemon), will also be listed alphabetically under their birth names, unless those are not known.

Names that belong to several characters (for example, the name Walder Frey) will be listed alphabetically, but will have their nickname or relations listed in parentheses in accordance with their page name, so they can be distinguished from one another.

For calculations on placings of events, see Calculations of Events.

Addam Hightower

Birth

Addam Hightower was the father of Manfred Hightower,[9] who was born at the latest in 10 BC (see Manfred Hightower (son of Addam)). Addam would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Manfred's birth, meaning that 22 BC is the latest possible year of birth for Addam.

No further specifications can be given. Addam was thus born in or before 22 BC.

Death

Addam Hightower succeeded his father, Manfred Hightower, as Lord of the Hightower when Manfred died. Manfred died "soon after" Oldtown had been attacked in 10 AC.[10] It is unknown how much time passed between the attack and Manfred's death. As 10 AC is the first possible moment for Manfred's death, Addam is known to have lived at least until 10 AC as well, placing his death no earlier than 10 AC.

Eventually, Addam was himself succeeded by his son, also named Manfred.[11] Manfred already ruled Oldtown by 23 AC,[11], demonstrating that Addam died no later than 23 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Addam thus died in or between 10 AC and 23 AC.

Addam Osgrey

Birth

Addam Osgrey was twelve years old in 196 AC.[12] That givens him the following options:

  • eleven turning twelve in 196 AC, placing his birth in 184 AC
  • twelve turning thirteen in 196 AC, placing his birth in 183 AC

No further specifications can be given. Addam was thus born in either 183 AC or 184 AC.

Aegon Blackfyre

Birth

Aegon Blackfyre was twelve years old when he died in 196 AC.[13][14] Being twelve years old in 196 AC gives the following options:

  • eleven turning twelve in 196 AC, placing his birth in 184 AC
  • twelve turning thirteen in 196 AC, placing his birth in 183 AC

Aegon's father, Daemon Blackfyre, married Aegon's mother, Rohanne of Tyrosh, in 184 AC.[14] That means that Aegon could not have been conceived earlier than 184 AC.

This eliminates 183 AC as a possible birth year for Aegon, leaving only 184 AC.

Aegon Frey (son of Aenys)

Birth

Aegon Frey is at least one year older than his younger brother Rhaegar. Rhaegar was born no later than 274 AC (see Rhaegar Frey), meaning that Aegon was born no later than one year before, in 273 AC.

Aegon was the firstborn child of his father, Aenys Frey. Aenys was born no earlier than 237 AC (see Aenys Frey), meaning that Aegon was born no earlier than twelve years after 237 AC, placing his first possible moment of birth in 249 AC.

Aegon was thus born in or between 249 AC and 273 AC.

Aegon Frey (son of Stevron)

Birth

Aegon Frey is believed to be "some fifty years" old in 299 AC.[15] That would place his birth roughly in 249 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Aegon was thus born roughly in 249 AC.

Aegon V Targaryen

Birth

Aegon V Targaryen was judged to be eight or nine in 209 AC.[16] Aegon being eight or nine in 209 AC would give the following options:

  • seven turning eight in 209 AC, placing his birth in 201 AC
  • eight turning nine in 209 AC, placing his birth in 200 AC
  • nine turning ten in 209 AC, placing his birth in 199 AC

Aegon was known to have been ten years old in 211 AC[12] and eleven years old in 212 AC.[17] This leaves the following options:

  • nine turning ten in 211 AC, and ten turning eleven in 212 AC, placing his birth in 201 AC
  • ten turning eleven in 211 AC, and eleven turning twelve in 212 AC, placing his birth in 200 AC

In addition, Aegon is stated to have been twenty years old in 220 AC when he got married.[18] As the last source of his age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, Aegon was born in 200 AC.

Aegon V Targaryen was thus born in 200 AC.

Aegon Targaryen (son of Gaemon)

Birth

Aegon Targaryen's eldest child, Maegon Targaryen,[19] was born no later than 67 BC (see Maegon Targaryen). Aegon would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, he would have been born no later than 79 BC.

When Aegon's grandfather, Aenar Targaryen, fled Valyria for Dragonstone in 114 BC, he took with him all his kin, including his children.[20][19] Aegon was not yet born at the time, therefore he would have been born no earlier than 114 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Aegon was thus born in or between 114 BC and 79 BC.

Aegon Targaryen (son of Rhaegar)

Birth

The World of Ice & Fire states that on the last day of 281 AC it began to snow in King's Landing, and that it took only a fortnight for the Blackwater to freeze. That caused King Aerys II to command the pyromancers to "drive off winter with their magics", which led to the pyromancers burning their wildfire along the walls of the Red Keep for a month. It is then stated that Rhaegar Targaryen was not at King's Landing at that moment, nor was he at Dragonstone "with Princess Elia and their young son, Aegon", as he had taken to the road "with the coming of the new year".[21] When exactly Rhaegar left is unclear. As such, it is known that Aegon Targaryen had been born by early 282 AC.

Elia Martell married Prince Rhaegar in 280 AC, and their first child, Rhaenys, was born later that same year.[22] That mean that Elia and Rhaegar were married within the first three months of the year, and Rhaenys was thus born within the last three months of the year. After Rhaenys' birth, Elia went on bedrest for half a year.[23] With Rhaenys's birth within the last three months of the year, Elia's bedrest would have lasted until any point in either the fourth, fifth or sixth month of 281 AC. (Note that Elia's bedrest might not have lasted precisely 6 months.) Aegon will have been conceived after Elia's bedrest had ended, and with a nine month pregnancy, he will thus have been born no earlier than very late in the year 281 AC, and no later than very early 282 AC. Per the visions in the House of the Undying, Rhaegar was with Elia when he named Aegon.[24] Rhaegar left Elia and Aegon in early 282 AC, thereby confirming that Aegon cannot have been born later than very early 282 AC.

When asked, The World of Ice & Fire co-author Elio Garcia stated that, in regards to the year of Aegon's birth, "George, too, is unclear on this point."[25]

No further confirmation can be given. Aegon was thus born in either late 281 AC or very early 282 AC.

Death

Aegon Targaryen died during the Sack of King's Landing. The Sack of King's Landing took place in 283 AC (see the Sack of King's Landing).

Aegon thus died in 283 AC.

Aegor Rivers

Birth

Aegor Rivers is known to have been twenty-four years old at the Battle of the Redgrass Field in 196 AC.[13] This would give Aegor the following options:

  • twenty-three turning twenty-four in 196 AC, placing his birth in 172 AC
  • twenty-four turning twenty-five in 196 AC, placing his birth in 171 AC

Aegor's mother, Barba Bracken, gave birth to Aegor after Aegon had ascended to the throne. Aegon ascended to the throne in 172 AC,[26] ruling out 171 AC as a possible year of birth.

In addition, Aegor was born a fortnight before Princess Daenerys, who was born in 172 AC,[26] and after Aegon IV had become king in 172 AC.

Aegor Rivers was thus born in 172 AC.

Death

Aegor Rivers was sixty-nine years old when he died.[18] As Aegor had been born in 172 AC, following rule #3, this means that Aegor died in 241 AC.

Aelor Targaryen

Birth

Aelor Targaryen and his twin sister Aelora were the eldest children of Prince Rhaegel Targaryen,[27] who was born in or between 173 AC and 177 AC (see Rhaegel Targaryen). As Rhaegel will have been at least twelve years old at the birth of his twins, this places Aelor's birth no earlier than 186 AC. However, in 211 AC, Aelor and his twin are mentioned as Rhaegel's children, with the description of them still being "children",[12] indicating they were still young at the time, and thus that Aelor had not yet reached manhood, therefore had not yet turned sixteen.[28] As it is possible Aelor would turn sixteen later than year, this places his birth no earlier than 195 AC.

Aelor is known to have been born by 211 AC.[12]

No further specifications can be given, Aelor was thus born in or between 195 AC and 211 AC.

Aelora Targaryen

Birth

Aelora Targaryen and her twin brother Aelor were the eldest children of Prince Rhaegel Targaryen,[27] who was born in or between 173 AC and 177 AC (see Rhaegel Targaryen). As Rhaegel will have been at least twelve years old at the birth of his twins, this places Aelora's birth no earlier than 185 AC. However, in 211 AC, Aelora and her twin are mentioned as Rhaegel's children, with the description of them still being "children",[12] indicating they were still young at the time, and thus that Aelora had not yet reached the age of majority, therefore had not yet turned sixteen.[29] As it is possible Aelora would turn sixteen later than year, this places her birth no earlier than 195 AC.

Aelora is known to have been born by 211 AC.[12]

No further specifications can be given. Aelora was thus born in or between 195 AC and 211 AC.

Death

Aelora Targaryen outlived her brother-husband, Prince Aelor Targaryen, who died in 217 AC.[30] However, she did not outlived her uncle, King Aerys I Targaryen, who died in 221 AC as Aerys's last heir before his death was his brother, Prince Maekar Targaryen.[30]

No further specifications can be given. Aelora thus died in or between 217 AC and 221 AC.

Aelyx Targaryen

Birth

Aelyx Targaryen would have been at least one year older than his younger brother, Baelon Targaryen.[19] As the latest possible year of birth for Baelon is 53 BC (see Baelon Targaryen), Aelyx would have been born no later than 54 BC.

Aelyx Targaryen was the first child of Lord Aerys Targaryen,[19] who was born at the earliest in 100 BC (see Aerys Targaryen). Aerys would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Aelyx's birth, meaning that 88 BC is the earliest possible year of birth for Aelyx.

No further specifications can be given. Aelyx was thus born in or between 88 BC and 54 BC.

Aemon Targaryen (son of Maekar I)

Birth

198 AC has been stated to have been Aemon's year of birth in A World of Ice and Fire.[31]

In addition, it is known that Aemon went to the Citadel at the age of 9 or 10.[32] It is known that Aemon was at the Citadel during the Ashford Tourney in 209 AC already.[33] With Aemon's birth having been in 198 AC, he would have turned 9 in 207 AC, and 10 in 208 AC, showing that Aemon either went to the Citadel in 207 AC, 208 AC or 209 AC (9 turning 10).

Aemon Blackfyre

Birth

Aemon Blackfyre was 12 years old when he died, in 196 AC.[13] Being 12 years old in 196 AC gives the following options:

  • 11 turning 12 in 196 AC, placing his birth in 184 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 196 AC, placing his birth in 183 AC

Aemon's father, Daemon Blackfyre, married Aemons mother, Rohanne of Tyrosh, in 184 AC.[14] That means that Aemon could not have been conceived earlier than 184 AC.

This eliminates 183 AC as a possible birth year for Aemon, leaving only 184 AC.

Aemon Targaryen (son of Viserys II)

Death

Aemon Targaryen is known to have died defending his brother, King Aegon IV Targaryen, from the brothers of Ser Terrence Toyne. Terrence's brothers wanted to take revenge for Terrence's death, which occurred in 178 AC.[26] It is unknown how long after his death, Terrence's brothers tried to take revenge.

It is known that both Aemon and Naerys, his sister, died during Aegon IV's reign, and that Naerys died a year after Aemon.[26] Aegons reign ended in 184 AC, meaning that Aerys's last possible year of death was 184 AC. And thus Aemons last possible year of death was 183 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Aemon died in or between 178 AC and 183 AC.

Aenar Targaryen

Birth

Aenar Targaryen took his children, Daenys and Gaemon Targaryen, with him when he fled Valryria in 114 BC.[19] The existence of two children living in 114 BC, means that Aenar was born at least thirteen years prior to his exile, in 127 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Aenar was thus born in or before 127 BC.

Note: Aenar's exile from Valyria was motivated by a vision foretelling the destruction of Valyria that Daenys had when she was a maiden. These elements point to Aenar being born years before 127 BC.

Death

Aenar Targaryen died after his exile.[19]

No further specifications can be given. Aenar thus died in or after 114 BC.

Aenys Blackfyre

Birth

Aenys Blackfyre was at least a year younger than his elder brother, Haegon I Blackfyre, who was born in 190 AC the earliest (Haegon I Blackfyre). This means that one year later, 191 AC, is the first possible year of birth for Aenys.

Aenys had two younger brothers.[34] All of the children of Daemon I had been born before the First Blackfyre Rebellion began in early 196 AC.[14] That means that 196 AC, early in the year, is the last possible moment for Aenys's youngest brother to have been born. Which, in turn, means that 194 AC is the last possible year of birth for Aenys.

No further specifications can be given. Aenys was thus born in or between 191 AC and 194 AC.

Aenys Frey

Birth

Aenys Frey is the younger brother of Emmon Frey, who was born in 237 AC or 238 AC (see Emmon Frey). As they had different mothers, Aenys and Emmon could have been born the same year, meaning that Aenys could have been born no earlier than 237 AC.

Aenys is older than his younger sister Perianne by at least one year. Perianne was born in 249 AC the latest (see Perriane Frey), meaning that Aenys was born no later than one year before, in 248 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Aenys was thus born in or between 238 AC and 248 AC.

Aerion Targaryen

Birth

Aerion Targaryen was the second born son of Maekar I Targaryen. This means that Aerion was born at least 1 year after his older brother Daeron. Daeron was born in 190 AC the earliest (see Daeron Targaryen), meaning that Aerion was born no earlier than 191 AC.

Aerion was allowed to participate in the Tourney at Ashford in 209 AC,[16] meaning he would have been at least 15 years old. The last possible year Aerion could have turned 15 was thus 209 AC, meaning that he would have been born in 194 AC the latest.

Ser Duncan the Tall judged Aerion to be near his own age (with Duncan himself being 16 or 17 years old) in 209 AC.[16] However, “near his own age” can also mean a year or so older or younger, thus Aerion could be born between 191 AC and 194 AC, which offers no further specification.

No further specifications can thus be given. Aerion was thus born in or between 191 AC and 194 AC.

Aerion Targaryen (son of Daemion)

Birth

Aerion Targaryen's eldest child, Visenya Targaryen,[19] was born no later than 28 BC (see Visenya Targaryen). Aerion would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, Aerion would have been born no later than 40 BC.

Aerion Targaryen was the only child of Lord Daemion Targaryen.[19] As the earliest possible year of birth for Daemion is 86 BC, (see Daemion Targaryen), Aerion would have been born no earlier than twelve years later, in 74 BC.

No further specifications can thus be given. Aerion was thus born in or between 74 BC and 40 BC.

Death

Aerion Targaryen was succeeded as Lord of Dragonstone by his son, Aegon I Targaryen.[19] As Lord of Dragonstone, Aegon is known to have visited the Arbor and the Citadel of Oldtown, aided Pentos and Tyrosh against Volantis, then returned to Dragonstone where he planned his conquest of Westeros.[35] As the conquest started in 2 BC,[19] Aerion would have died no later than 2 BC, though most likely before.

Aerion's youngest child, Rhaenys Targaryen,[19] was born no earlier than 26 BC (see Rhaenys Targaryen). Therefore Aerion died no earlier than 26 BC.

No further specifications can thus be given. Aerion thus died in or between 26 BC and 2 BC.

Aeron Greyjoy

Birth

Aeron Greyjoy was sixteen years old or older when he named his ship The Golden Storm.[36] Aeron's ship went down during the Greyjoy Rebellion in 289 AC,[36] showing that Aeron had turned sixteen at least by 289 AC, placing his birth no later than 273 AC.

Aeron's brother Urrigon was fourteen years old when he died,[36] in 283 AC.[37] Aeron was younger than Urrigon, making him thirteen or younger in 283 AC. If Aeron was 13 years old in 283 AC, he was born in either 270 AC (12 turning 13 in 283 AC), or 269 AC (13 turning 14 in 283 AC). This places Aeron's birth in 269 AC or later.

Aeron was thus born in or between 269 AC and 273 AC.

Aerys I Targaryen

Birth

Aerys I Targaryen was the secondborn son of King Daeron II Targaryen. This means he was thus born at least 1 year after his elder brother Baelor, who was born in 170 AC (see Baelor Targaryen (son of Daeron II)). This would make Aerys's first possible year of birth 171AC.

However, it is stated that the Aerys's aunt Daenerys was born after Daeron II, Aerys's father, himself already had a son, not “sons”, thereby indicating that Daenerys was born after Baelor, but before Aerys. Daenerys was born in 172 AC (see Daenerys Targaryen (daughter of Aegon IV)), so the earliest that Aerys could have been born, would be the year 172 AC (placing his birth behind Daenerys’ birth in the year).

Aerys was older than his brother Maekar, who was born the latest in 178 AC (see Maekar I Targaryen). Between Aerys and Maekar is one other brother, meaning that Aerys was born at least 2 years before Maekar. This makes 176 AC the last possible year of birth for Aerys.

No further specifications can be given. Aerys was thus born in or between 172 AC and 176 AC.

Aerys II Targaryen

Birth

Aerys II Targaryen was eighteen years old when he came into his throne in 262 AC.[22] This gives Aerys the following options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 262 AC, placing his birth in 244 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 262 AC, placing his birth in 243 AC

As the source for Aerys's age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Aerys's birth in 244 AC

Aerys was thus born in 244 AC.

Aerys Targaryen (son of Aegon)

Birth

Aerys Targaryen's eldest child, Aelyx Targaryen,[19] was born no later than 54 BC (see Aelyx Targaryen). Aerys would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, he would have been born no later than 66 BC.

Aerys Targaryen would have been at least one year younger than his older brother, Maegon Targaryen.[19] As the earliest possible year of birth for Maegon is 101 BC (see Maegon Targaryen), Aerys would have been born no earlier than 100 BC.

No further specifications can thus be given. Aerys was thus born in or between 100 BC and 66 BC.

Aethan Velaryon

Birth

Aethan Velaryon's eldest son, Daemon,[11] had been born at the latest in 2 AC (see Daemon Velaryon (son of Aethan)). Aethan would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Daemon's birth, meaning that he could not have been born any later than 10 BC.

No further specification can be given. Aethan was thus born in or before 10 BC.

Death

Aethan is known to have still been alive in 42 AC.[11] By 47 AC, his son Daemon had succeeded him as Lord of the Tides and Master of Driftmark,[11] demonstrating that Aethan had died by 47 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Aethan thus died in or between 42 AC and 47 AC.

Alan Beesbury

Birth

Alan Beesbury had been knighted by 129 AC,[38] meaning that he was at least fifteen years old by then. This places his birth no later than 114 AC.

Moreover, Alan was the grandson of Lyman Beesbury,[39] who had been born in 49 AC (see Lyman Beesbury). Lyman would have been at least twelve years old at the birth of Alan's father, and at least twenty-four years old at Alan's birth. As such, Alan was born no earlier than 73 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Alan was thus born in or between 73 AC and 114 AC.

Alayaya

Birth

Alayaya is known to have been 16 years old in 299 AC.[40] That leaves the following options for her:

  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC

No further specifications can be given. Alayaya was thus born in either 282 AC or 283 AC.

Alequo Adarys

Death

Alequo Adarys died six years after the War of the Ninepenny Kings ended in 260 AC,[41] placing his death in 266 AC.

Alerie Hightower

Birth

Alerie Hightower is known to be younger than her husband, Mace Tyrell,[42] who was born no earlier than 256 AC (see Mace Tyrell), meaning Alerie was born no earlier than 257 AC.

Alerie's first born child was born in 276 AC the latest (see Willas Tyrell). Alerie would have been at least twelve years old during Willas's birth, meaning that Alerie will not have been born any later than 264 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Alerie was thus born in or between 257 AC and 264 AC.

Alesander Frey

Birth

Alesander Frey was born at least one year before his sister Alyx, who was born in 282 AC (see Alyx Frey). This makes Alesanders first possible year of birth one year before, 281 AC.

Alesander's father Symond was born the earliest in 251 AC (see Symond Frey). Symond would have been at least twelve years old when Alesander was born, meaning that 263 AC is the earliest possible year of birth for Alesander.

No further specifications can be given. Alesander was thus born in or between 263 AC and 281 AC.

Alester Norcross

Birth

Alester Norcross is eight years old in 299 AC.[43] He is nine years old in 300 AC.[44] That gives Alester the following options:

  • 7 turning 8 in 299 AC, and 8 turning 9 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 291 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 299 AC, and 9 turning 10 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 290 AC

No further specifications can be given. Alester was thus born in either 290 AC or 291 AC.

Aliandra Martell

Birth

Aliandra Martell was seventeen years old in 132 AC.[45] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, this places her birth in 115 AC

Aliandra was thus born in 115 AC.

Alicent Hightower

Birth

Alicent Hightower was eighteen years old when she got married in 106 AC.[46] That gives her the following options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 106 AC, placing her birth in 88 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 106 AC, placing her birth in 87 AC

However, as the source for Alicent's age in 106 AC concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing her birth in 88 AC

Alicent Hightower was thus born in 88 AC.

Alla Tyrell

Birth

Alla Tyrell is known to be close to Sansa Stark's age.[47] Sansa Stark was born in 286 AC. This places Alla's birth roughly around 286 AC as well.

Alliser Thorne

Birth

Alliser Thorne was "fifty years" in 298 AC.[48] Being fifty in 298 AC gives him the following options:

  • being 49 turning 50 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 248 AC
  • being 50 turning 51 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 247 AC

No further specifications can be given. Alliser Thorne was thus born in either 247 AC or 248 AC.

Alyn Blackwood

Birth

Alyn Blackwood was born at least one year after his older brother, Edmund Blackwood,[49] who was born no earlier than 287 AC (see Edmund Blackwood).

Alyn was born at least one year before his younger sister, Bethany Blackwood,[49] who was born no later than 292 AC (see Bethany Blackwood).

No further specifications can be given. Alyn was thus born in or between 288 AC or 291 AC.

Alyn Bullock

Birth

Alyn Bullock was the older brother of Ser Howard Bullock,[50] who was born at the latest in 34 AC (see Howard Bullock). Since there was at least one year in between the births of the two brothers, Alyn could not have been born any later than 33 AC.

Alyn Frey

Birth

Alyn Frey has been mentioned to have been 3 years old in 299 AC[51][43] and 4 years old in 300 AC.[44] Being 3 years old in 299 AC gives the following options:

  • 2 turning 3, placing his birth in 296 AC
  • 3 turning 4, placing his birth in 295 AC

Being 4 years old in 300 AC gives the following options:

  • 3 turning 4, placing his birth in 296 AC
  • 4 turning 5, placing his birth in 295 AC

No further specifications can be given. Alyn was born in either 295 AC or 296 AC.

Alyn Haigh

Birth

Alyn Haigh is at least one year younger than his older brother Donnel. Donnel was born in 251 AC the earliest (see Donnel Haigh), meaning that Alyn was born at least one year later, in 252 AC.

Alyn is a squire, a position which can be granted to a child from the age of 8.[N 1] This means that Alyn cannot be younger than 8 years in 299 AC, meaning the youngest Alyn can be is 7 turning 8 in 299 AC, which would place his birth in 291 AC. So Alyn was born no later than 291 AC.

Alyn was born in or between 252 AC and 291 AC.

Alyn Velaryon

Death

Alyn Velaryon had bastard twins with Princess Elaena Targaryen, after Elaena was freed from the Maidenvault in 171 AC.[52] Alyn went away, by ship, and never returned. It is unknown when Alyn left Westeros, but a year after his disappearance, Elaena gave up hope for his return, and agreed to wed elsewhere.[52] This marriage was Elaena's first, to Ossifer Plumm, in 176 AC.[52] Thus, by 176 AC, Alyn had already died (or so history would record it).

As it is unknown how much time passed between Elaena agreeing to marry elsewhere, and her actually marrying in 176 AC, it is technically possible that Alyn's disappearance occurred rather quickly after Elaena having been freed from the Maidenvault. Therefore, Alyn's death thus can be said to have occurred in or between 171 AC and 176 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Note: As it is most likely that only little time passed between Elaena agreeing to marry elsewhere, and Elaena actually marrying, Alyn's actual disappearance seems to have appeared closer to 176 AC than to 171 AC.

Alys Arryn

Birth

Alys Arryn was the younger sister of Jon Arryn.[53] Jon Arryn was born in or between 218 AC and 220 AC (see Jon Arryn), so Alys was born at least one year after Jon's first possible year of birth, placing her birth in 219 AC or after.

Alys gave birth to nine children, first eight daughters, then one son. The youngest of the daughters gave birth to a son, Harrold Hardyng.[53] Harrold was born in either 281 AC or 282 AC (see Harrold Hardyng). This means that in 282 AC at the latest, Alys's youngest daughter would have been at least 12 years old. In addition, as this concerns Alys's 8th daughter, Alys herself would have been at least 19 years old when this daughter was born, meaning that Alys was at least 31 years old when Harrold was born. That places Alys's birth no later than 251 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Ronnel was thus born in or between 219 AC and 251 AC.

Alys Karstark

Birth

Alys Karstark is fifteen years old in 300 AC.[54][55] That gives her two options:

  • 14 turning 15 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 285 AC
  • 15 turning 16 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 284 AC

No further specifications can be given. Alys was thus born in either 284 AC or 285 AC.

Alys Karstark (wife of Brandon)

Birth

Alys Karstark's eldest child, Rodwell Stark,[56] was born no later than 195 AC (see Rodwell Stark). Alys would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 183 AC.

Death

Alys cannot have died before her youngest child, Arsa Stark,[56] was born. Arsa was born no earlier than ~173 AC (see Arsa Stark), so Alys died no earlier than ~173 AC.

Alys Rivers

Birth

Alys Rivers's age is disputed by the historical sources but all agreed she was at least forty years old in 129 AC.[57], placing Alys's birth in 89 AC at the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Alys was thus born in or before 89 AC.

Alys Stackspear

Birth

Alys Stackspear's only child, Damon Lannister,[58] was born no later than 245 AC (see Damon Lannister (son of Jason)). Alys would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 233 AC.

Death

Alys Stackspear died giving birth to her son, Damon.[59] Damon was born in either 244 AC or 245 AC (See Damon Lannister (son of Jason)), indicating that Alys died in either 244 AC or 245 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Alys Stark

Birth

Alys Stark was the second of the four daughters of Lord Cregan Stark and his second wife, Lady Alysanne Blackwood.[56] Alys's older sister, Sarra Stark, was born at the earliest in 133 AC (see Sarra Stark). Since Sarra and Alys were not twins,[56] Alys would have been at least one year younger than Sarra. Therefore, the earliest possible year of birth for Alys is 134 AC.

Alys would have been at least one year older than her younger sister, Raya Stark.[56] As the latest possible year of birth for Raya is 178 AC (see Raya Stark), Alys would have been born no later than 177 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Sarra was thus born in or between 134 AC and 177 AC.

Alys Stone

Birth

Alys Stone is known to have been two years old in 300 AC.[60] That gives her the following options:

  • 1 turning 2 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 298 AC
  • 2 turning 3 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 297 AC

No further specifications can be given. Alys was thus born in either 297 AC or 298 AC.

Alys Turnberry

Birth

Alys Turnberry had the same age as Princess Saera Targaryen in 82 AC.[61] Saera had been born in 67 AC.[61] As the source for Alys's age is a historical work, rule #3 applies. Alys was thus born in 67 AC.

Alysane Mormont

Birth

Alysane Mormont's daughter was nine years old in 300 AC,[62] and was therefore born in either 291 AC or 290 AC. Alysane would have been at least twelve years old when her daughter was born, placing her birth no later than 279 AC.

Alysane is "almost of an age" with Asha Greyjoy,[62] suggesting Alysane is either about a year or two younger, or about a year or two older than Asha.[N 2] Asha was born in either 275 AC or 276 AC (see Asha Greyjoy), which places Alysane's date of birth in or around ~273 AC and 278 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Alysane was thus born in or around ~273 AC and 278 AC.

Alysanne (daughter of Aegon IV)

Birth

Alysanne's mother, Megette, was the mistress of King Aegon IV from 155 AC until 158 AC. Alysanne is listed as the first, and thus supposedly eldest, of four children.[26] This would place Alysanne's birth in 155 AC.

Alysanne Blackwood

Birth

Alysanne Blackwood is mentioned to have been sixteen years old in 129 AC.[39] As her age is mentioned in a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing her birth in 113 AC.

Alysanne was thus born in 113 AC.

Death

Alysanne had four daughters with Lord Cregan Stark.[63] The youngest, Mariah, was born no earlier than 136 AC (see Mariah Stark). Therefore, the earliest possible year of death for Alysanne is 136 AC.

After Alysanne's death, Lord Cregan Stark remarried to Lynara Stark. Together they had five children, the eldest of which was Jonnel Stark.[63] As the latest possible year of birth for Jonel is 179 AC (see Jonnel Stark), Alysanne would have died no later than 179 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Alysanne thus died in or between 136 AC and 179 AC.

Alysanne Bulwer

Birth

Alysanne Bulwer is eight years old in 299 AC.[47][43] She is still eight years old in 300 AC.[44] This shows that Alysanne was seven turning eight in 299 AC, and eight turning nine in 300 AC, placing her birth in 291 AC.

Alysanne Osgrey

Birth

Alysanne Osgrey was seven years old when she was send to King's Landing as a hostage after the First Blackfyre Rebellion, and twenty years old when she died of the Great Spring Sickness,[12] in either 209 AC or 210 AC.

Being twenty years old in either 209 AC or 210 AC gives the following options:

  • 19 turning 20 in 209 AC, placing her birth in 189 AC
  • 20 turning 21 in 209 AC, placing her birth in 188 AC
  • 19 turning 20 in 210 AC, placing her birth in 190 AC
  • 20 turning 21 in 210 AC, placing her birth in 189 AC

The First Blackfyre Rebellion ended in 196 AC.[64] Alysanne was seven when she was taken to King's Landing, no earlier than 196 AC. Having been seven years old in 196 AC gives her the following options:

  • 6 turning 7 in 196 AC, placing her birth in 189 AC
  • 7 turning 8 in 196 AC, placing her birth in 188 AC

It is unknown when the hostages were taken exactly (e.g., in a Feast for Crows, House Blackwood is given six months to send a hostage to King's Landing). Alysanne could not have been sent to King's Landing any earlier than late 196 AC. If Alysanne had been sent to King's Landing as a hostage at a later moment, her birth would have occurred later. None of the three options given above can be eliminated.

No further specifications can be given. Alysanne was thus born in either 188 AC, 189 AC, or 190 AC.

Death

Alysanne is known to have died due to the Great Spring Sickness at the age of 20.[12] The Spring Sickness claimed victims in both 209 AC[14] and 210 AC.[65] It currently cannot be specified during which year Alysanne died.

Alysanne Stark

Birth

Alysanne Stark's next youngest sibling, Errold Stark,[56] was born no later than 226 AC (see Errold Stark). Alysanne would have been born at least a year earlier, so she was born no later than 225 AC.

Alysanne's next oldest sibling, Berena Stark,[56] was born no earlier than ~187 AC (see Berena Stark). Alysanne would have been born at least a year later, therefore she was born no earlier than ~188 AC.

Thus, Alysanne was born in or between ~188 AC and 225 AC.

Alyssa Blackwood

Birth

Alyssa Blackwood's eldest child was Lothar Frey. Lothar was born in 266 AC the latest (see Lothar Frey), meaning that Alyssa was born no later than 12 years prior, placing her birth no later than 254 AC. No minimum birth year can be given.

Death

Alyssa’s youngest child was Tyta Frey, who was born in 269 AC the earliest (see Tyta Frey). This means that Alyssa died no earlier than 269 AC.

Alyssa's husband was Walder Frey. She was his fourth wife. Walders fifth wife gave him no children, but Walder sixth wife, Bethany Rosby, did. Bethany's eldest child by Walder was born no later than 278 AC (see Perwyn Frey). This means that Perwyn was conceived no later than 278 AC, and thus that the marriage of Bethany and Walder will have taken place no later than 278 AC. Since it is possible that Walder's fifth wife, Sarya Whent, was married to him only for a short time, before dying, and since it is possible that Walders fourth wife, Alyssa, had died only shortly before Walders marriage to Sarya, Alyssa could have died in early 278 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Alyssa thus died between 269 AC and 278 AC.

Alyssa Royce

Birth

Alyssa Royce was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Cattle Show in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC. No further specifications can be given. Alyssa was thus born in or between 103 AC and 133 AC.

Alyssa Velaryon

Birth

Alyssa Velaryon was fifteen years old in 22 AC.[66] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing her birth in 7 AC

Alyx Frey

Birth

Alyx Frey has been mentioned to have been seventeen years old in 299 AC[51][43] and in 300 AC.[44] Being seventeen years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means she was sixteen turning seventeen in 299 AC, and seventeen turning eighteen in 300 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC.

Alyx Frey was thus born in 282 AC.

Amanda Arryn

Birth

Amanda Arryn was the younger daughter of Lord Rodrik Arryn and his first wife.[67] Her older sister, Elys, was born in 61 AC (see Elys Arryn), meaning Amanda could not have been born any earlier than 62 AC. She wrote letters for her stepmother Daella, who died 82 AC.[67] Assuming that a kid has to be at least 8 to write letters, then Amanda could not have been born later than 74 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Amanda was thus born in or between 62 AC and 74 AC.

Amarei Crakehall

Birth

Amarei Crakehall's eldest son, Hosteen, was born in 258 AC the latest (see Hosteen Frey). Amarei will have been at least twelve years old at Hosteen's birth, placing her birth no later than 246 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Amarei was thus born in or before 246 AC.

Death

Amarei died before Catelyn Tully was born.[68] Catelyn was born in 265 AC the latest (see Catelyn Tully), making 265 AC the last possible year for Amarei to have died.

Amarei's youngest son Raymund was born in 264 AC the earliest (see Raymund Frey), making 264 AC the earliest possible year for Amarei to have died.

Amarei died in either 264 AC or 265 AC. No further specifications can be given.

  • 15 turning 16 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 283 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 299 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC

Jaime Lannister judges Amerei to be "some eighteen years" halfway through 300 AC.[69] If Amerei is eighteen years old in 300 AC, this gives the following options:

  • 17 turning 18 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 282 AC
  • 18 turning 19 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 281 AC

282 AC is the only overlapping year. Amerei was thus born in 282 AC.

Andros Brax

Birth

Androw Farman

Birth

Androw Farman was "just seventeen" years old when he married during the first fortnight of 49 AC,[70][71] As the source for his age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, he was thus born in 32 AC.

Furthermore, Androw was nine years younger than Rhaena Targaryen, his wife.[50] Rhaena had been born in 23 AC,[11] confirming Androw's year of birth to have been 32 AC.

Androw Frey

Birth

Androw Frey has been mentioned to have been three years old in 299 AC[51][43] and four years old in 300 AC.[44] Being three years old in 299 AC gives the following options:

  • 2 turning 3, placing his birth in 296 AC
  • 3 turning 4, placing his birth in 295 AC

Being four years old in 300 AC gives the following options:

  • 3 turning 4, placing his birth in 296 AC
  • 4 turning 5, placing his birth in 295 AC

No further specifications can be given. Androw was born in either 295 AC or 296 AC.

Annara Farring

Birth

Annara Farring's eldest child, Arwyn Frey,[51] was born in 285 AC (see Arwyn Frey). As Annara would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Arwyn's birth, this places Annara's birth no later than 273 AC.

Birth

The daughter of the Archon of Tyrosh during the early years of the reign of Jaehaerys I was fifteen years old in 49 AC.[70] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing her birth in 34 AC.

Ardrian Celtigar

Birth

Ardrian Celtigar is known to be an old man in 299 AC, but not as old as ancient Lord Estermont.[74] If it is Lord Eldon Estermont who is described as "ancient" (as there is some confusion amongst the Estermonts, see House Estermont/Theories), than Ardrian would be younger than Eldon. Eldon was born in or between 228 AC and 232 AC (see Eldon Estermont), meaning that Eldon was born in 228 AC the earliest, and that Ardrian was born at least one year later, possibly more. That places Ardrians birth no earlier than 229 AC. No maximum can be given.

Thus, Aregelle was born in or between 154 AC and 210 AC.

Death

Aregelle had at least one child.[56] She cannot have died before they were born. As Aregelle was born no earlier than 154 AC, and she would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, Aregelle died no earlier than 166 AC.

Arianne Martell is twenty-three year old in 300 AC.[77] This leaves two options:

  • 22 turning 23 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 277 AC
  • 23 turning 24 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 276 AC

Arianne mentions she was 7 years old when Elia Martell died in 283 AC.[78] Being 7 in 283AC gives the following options:

  • 6 turning 7, placing her birth in 276 AC
  • 7 turning 8, placing her birth in 275 AC

The year 276 AC is the only overlapping year. Arianne was thus born in 276 AC.

Arlan of Pennytree

Birth

Arlan of Pennytree died in 209 AC at an age “closer to sixty than fifty”.[16] Closer to sixty than fifty means that Arlan was between the age of 56 and 59, possibly to turn 60 later in the year, giving him the following possibilities:

  • 55 turning 56 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 153 AC
  • 56 turning 57 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 152 AC
  • 57 turning 58 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 151 AC
  • 58 turning 59 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 150 AC
  • 59 turning 60 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 149 AC

No further specifications can be given. Arlan was thus born in or between 149 AC and 153 AC.

Note: as Arlan is said to have seen the last dragon alive when he was a boy, the year 153 AC for Arlan's birth seems highly unlikely, as it was 153 AC when the last dragon died.[79]

Birth

Arrana Stark's next older siblings, twins Cregard and Torrhen Stark,[56] were born no earlier than 152 AC (see Cregard Stark, Torrhen Stark). Arrana would have been born at least a year later, therefore she was born no earlier than 153 AC.

Arrana's next younger sibling, Aregelle Stark,[56] was born no later than 210 AC (see Aregelle Stark). Arrana would have been born at least a year earlier, so she was born no later than 209 AC.

Thus, Arrana was born in or between 153 AC and 209 AC.

Death

Arrana had at least one child.[56] She cannot have died before they were born. As Arrana was born no earlier than 153 AC, and she would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, Arrana died no earlier than 165 AC.

Arsa Stark was the third child of Lord Brandon Stark.[56] She would have been at least one year younger than her older brother Beron, who was born no earlier than ~172 AC (see Beron Stark). As such, Arsa was born no earlier than ~173 AC.

Arsa cannot have been born later than the year after her father died. Brandon died no later than 212 AC (see Brandon Stark), so Arsa was born no later than 213 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Arsa was thus born in or between ~173 AC and 213 AC.

Arstan Selmy

Birth

Arstan Selmy is the great-nephew of Ser Barristan Selmy,[49] who was born in 236 AC or 237 AC (see Barristan Selmy). Arstan's grandfather would have been at least one year younger than his older brother, Barristan, and at least twenty-four years old at Arstan's birth. As such, Arstan was born no earlier than 261 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Arstan was thus born in or after 261 AC.

Arthor Celtigar

Birth

Arthor Celtigar was fifteen years old in 130 AC.[80] As the source for his age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, this places his birth in 115 AC.

Arthor was thus born in 115 AC.

Arthor Karstark

Arthor Karstark is judged to fifty years old in 300 AC,[81] placing his birth in either 250 AC of 249 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Birth

Arthur Dayne was a member of the Kingsguard in 276 AC.[22] At the age of fifteen, Jaime Lannister was the youngest to join the Kingsguard ever,[82][83] indicating Arthur was at least sixteen years old when he joined the Kingsguard. As 276 AC is the year of the first mention of Arthur being a Kingsguard knight, he was at least sixteen years old in 276 AC, though possibly older. This means that Arthur Dayne was born in 260 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Arthur Dayne was born in 260 AC or before.

Artos Stark

Birth

Artos Stark's next youngest sibling, Berena Stark,[56] was born no later than 224 AC (see Berena Stark). Artos would have been born at least a year earlier, so he was born no later than 223 AC.

Arwyn Frey

Birth

Arwyn is known to have been 14 years old in 299 AC,[15][51] and in 300 AC.[44][49] Being 14 years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means she was 13 turning 14 in 299 AC, and 14 turning 15 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 285 AC.

Arwyn Oakheart

Birth

Arwyn Oakheart is the mother of Ser Arys Oakheart and an unknown number of older sons.[44] Arys was born in the latest 274 AC (see Arys Oakheart), indicating that Arwyn was at least fourteen years old at his birth (being a minimum of twelve years old at the birth of her eldest child, and a minimum of one year between the births of her sons). As Arys's last possible year of birth is 274 AC, and Arwyn would have been at least fourteen years old at his birth, Arwyn was thus born no later than 260 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Arwyn was thus born in or before 260 AC.

Arya Flint

Birth

Arya Flint's eldest child, Branda Stark,[56] was born no later than 249 AC (see Branda Stark). Arya would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so she was born no later than 237 AC.

Death

Arya cannot have died before her youngest child, Lyarra Stark,[56] was born. Lyarra was born no earlier than ~203 AC (see Lyarra Stark), so Arya died no earlier than ~203 AC.

Arya died before Eddard Stark was born.[85] Eddard was born in 263 AC, so Arya died no later than 263 AC.

Thus, Arya died in or between ~203 AC and 263 AC.

Arya Stark

Birth

Arya is 9 years old when the royal court is visiting Winterfell in 298 AC.[86] Arya tells Roose Bolton she is 10 years old when he takes Harrenhal in 299 AC.[87] Arya is still 10 after Joffrey Baratheon's wedding, in 300 AC, when she's on the ship to Braavos.[88] With Arya being 10 in both 299 AC and 300 AC, Arya was 9 turning 10 in 299 AC and 10 turning 11 in 300 AC. This also means that Arya was 8 turning 9 in 298 AC. Arya was thus born in 289 AC.

Arys Oakheart

Birth

Arys Oakheart joined the Kingsguard in 290 AC.[89] As the fifteen-year-old Jaime Lannister is the youngest member in the history to have joined the order,[89] Arys would have been at least sixteen when he became a kingsguard in 290 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Arys was thus born in or before 274 AC.

Asha Greyjoy

Birth

Asha is 3 years older than her younger brother Theon.[90] Theon was born in either 278 AC or 279 AC (see Theon Greyjoy). With Asha being 3 years older than Theon, Asha would have been born in either 276 AC or 275 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Asha was thus born in either 275 AC or 276 AC.

Ashara Dayne

Birth

Ashara Dayne is known to have been "in her thirties" in 300 AC, had she lived.[91] This would mean that Ashara, in 300 AC, was between the ages of 31 and 39, though it is possible she would be turning 40 later in the year. This would place Ashara's birth in or between 260 AC and 269 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Aurane Waters

Birth

Aurane Waters is known to have been 22 years old in 300 AC.[83] This gives Aurane the following options:

  • 21 turning 22 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 278 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 277 AC

No further specifications can be given. Aurane was born in either 277 AC or 278 AC.

Baelon Targaryen (son of Aerys)

Birth

Baelon Targaryen would have been at least one year older than his younger brother, Daemion Targaryen.[19] As the latest possible year of birth for Daemion is 52 BC (see Daemion Targaryen), Baelon would have been born no later than 53 BC.

Baelon Targaryen would have been at least one year younger than his older brother, Aelyx Targaryen.[19] As the earliest possible year of birth for Aelyx is 88 BC (see Aelyx Targaryen), Baelon would have been born no earlier than 87 BC.

No further specifications can be given. Baelon was thus born in or between 87 BC and 53 BC.

Baelor Targaryen (son of Daeron II)

Birth

Baelor Targaryen was 39 years old when he died in 209 AC.[16] This gives Baelor the following options:

  • 38 turning 39 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 170 AC
  • 39 turning 40 in 209 AC, placing his birth in 169 AC

It is known that Baelor was 17 years old when Princess Daenerys, his aunt, wed Prince Maron Martell.[14] Daeron II started the negotiations for Daenerys's marriage soon after he became King (he became king in 184 AC), and the negotiations lasted 2 years, where Maron agreed to be betrothed to Daenerys, once she was of age. Daenerys was married to Maron a year later.[14]

With Baelor's possible years of birth being 170 AC and 169 AC, Baelor was 17 years old in either

  • 186 AC (born in 169 AC, having been 16 turning 17)
  • 187 AC (born in 169 AC, having been 17 turning 18)
  • 187 AC (born in 170 AC, having been 16 turning 17)
  • 188 AC (born in 170 AC, having been 17 turning 18)

According to “rule 3”, the second and fourth option are not valid, as this is sourced by a historical work from Yandel. This leaves only 186 AC and 187 AC for the possible year of Baelor having been 17, and thus as the date for Daenerys's wedding. As at least 3 years passed between Daeron II ascending the throne (in 184 AC) and Daenerys and Maron marrying, 186 AC is no longer an option.

This shows that, according to Yandel, Baelor turned 17 in 187 AC, placing his birth in 170 AC.

Baelor Targaryen was thus born in 170 AC.

Baelor I Targaryen

Birth

Baelor was 17 years old in 161 AC.[52] As the source for his age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Baelor’s birth in 144 AC

Balerion

Birth

Balerion was around 200 years old when he died[92] in 94 AC.[46] This places Balerion's birth near 107 BC, due to there not being a year "0". However, Balerion is known to have been alive already when the Targaryens left the Valyrian Freehold for Dragonstone, which occurred in 126 BC,[20] 220 years before his death, implying that Balerion had been born in 126 BC or before, but likely not much before.

Balerion (son of Aegon IV)

Birth

Balerion was the youngest of three children of Bellegere Otherys and King Aegon IV Targaryen. Bellegere and Aegon were together from 161 AC until 171 AC.[26] This would place Balerion’s birth in 163 AC the earliest, at least one year after his elder sister Narha, and in 172 AC the latest.

Balerion was thus born in or between 163 AC and 172 AC.

Balon Greyjoy

Birth

Balon was the fourth son of Quellon Greyjoy.[36] Thus, he would have been at least 9 months younger than his elder sibling, Donel, Quellon's third son.[36] As Donel and Balon have different mothers,[36] it is possible that they were born in the same year. Donel was born no earlier than 255 AC (see Donel Greyjoy), placing Balon's birth no earlier than 255 AC as well.

Balon's third child, Asha, was born in either 275 AC or 276 AC (see Asha Greyjoy), indicating that Balon was at least fourteen years old at her birth (being a minimum of twelve years old at the birth of his eldest child, and a minimum of thirteen at the birth of his second child). As Asha's last possible year of birth is 276 AC, and Balon would have been at least fourteen years old at her birth, Balon was thus born no later than 262 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Balon was thus born in or between 255 AC and 262 AC.

Barba Bracken

Birth

Barba was 16 years old in 171 AC.[26] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing Barba's birth in 155 AC.

Barba Bolton

Birth

Barba Bolton was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Cattle Show in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty, Barba could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Barba was thus born in or between 103 AC and 133 AC.

Barristan Selmy

Birth

Barristan was 23 when he was raised to the Kingsguard during the reign of Jaehaerys II, thus in either 259 AC, 260 AC, 261 AC, or 262 AC.[93][94][95][96] This gives Barristan the following options:

  • 22 turning 23 in 259 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC
  • 23 turning 24 in 259 AC, placing his birth in 235 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 260 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • 23 turning 24 in 260 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 261 AC, placing his birth in 238 AC
  • 23 turning 24 in 261 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 262 AC, placing his birth in 239 AC
  • 23 turning 24 in 262 AC, placing his birth in 238 AC

This gives Barristan the options of 235 AC to 239 AC

It is known Barristan slew Maelys I Blackfyre before joining the Kingsguard,[95] which Barristan is known to have done in 260 AC.[41] Thus, Barristan cannot have joined the Kingsguard in 259 AC, eliminating the first two options given above. Therefore, Barristan was born in 236 AC, 237 AC, 238 AC, or 239 AC.

In 300 AC, Barristan thinks to himself it has been 53 years since the tourney at Blackhaven, when he was 10.[85][95][97] This means the tourney at Blackhaven occurred in 247 AC. Being 10 years old in 247 AC, gives the following options:

  • 9 turning 10 in 247 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • 10 turning 11 in 247 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC

This leaves only the options 236 AC and 237 AC, eliminating 235 AC, 238 AC, and 239 AC.

Barristan is known to be 63 years old in the year 300 AC.[97] This leaves two options:

  • 62 turning 63 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • 63 turning 64 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC

Further, Barristan was 61 years old in 298 AC during the Tourney of the Hand.[98] This leaves the following options:

  • Either 60 turning 61 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • Either 61 turning 62 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC

As well, Barristan is known to have been 16 years old in 253 AC.[98][99][95] That gives the following two options:

  • Being 15 turning 16 in 253 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • Being 16 turning 17 in 253 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC

Each of these entries show that the options of 235 AC, 238 AC and 239 AC are eliminated, leaving only two options.

Barristan was 57 when winning a tourney.[95] This tourney took place in 294 AC.[100] Barristan being 57 in 294AC means he was:

  • 56 turning 57 in 294 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • 57 turning 58 in 294 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC

This gives no further clarification

Barristan, who was 61 years old during the Tourney of the Hand in 298 AC, was also 61 when he was fired from the Kingsguard by Joffrey Baratheon.[95] It is unknown in which year this event takes place (either in late 298 AC or early 299 AC):

  • 60 turning 61 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC
  • 61 turning 62 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 236 AC
  • 61 turning 62 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 237 AC

(Due to being already 61 in 298 AC, Barristan could not have been 60 turning 61 in 299 AC, which is why this option is not available.)

This gives no further specification.

Barristan was named to the Kingsguard at the age of 23 only after killing Maelys I Blackfyre.[95] Barristan killed Maelys during the War of the Ninepenny Kings, in 260 AC, late in the year.[N 3]

  • If Barristan was born in 236 AC, he would have been 23 turning 24 in 260 AC
  • If Barristan was born in 237 AC, he would have been 22 turning 23 in 260 AC

Both options remain.

Thus Barristan Selmy was thus born in either 236 AC or 237 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Barsena

Birth

Barsena is roughly 30 years old in 300 AC,[101] placing her birth roughly around 270 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Barth

Birth

Barth was appointed Hand of the King in 58 AC.[67] Ser Tywin Lannister was the youngest ever to be appointed at that position at the age of twenty in 262 AC.[102] Therefore Barth was at least twenty-one years old in 58 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Barth was thus born in or before 37 AC.

Barthogan Stark

Birth

Barthogan Stark was the fourth child of Lord Cregan Stark by his third wife, Lady Lynara Stark.[63] Barthogan would have been at least one year younger than his sister Lyanna, Cregan's third child by Lynara.[63] Lyanna was born no earlier than 138 AC (see Lyanna Stark), indicating that 139 AC is the earliest possible birth year for Barthogan.

Barthogan would have been at least one year older than his younger brother, Brandon Stark.[56] As the latest possible year of birth for Brandon was 183 AC (see Brandon Stark), Barthogan would have been born no later than 182 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Barthogan was thus born in or between 139 AC and 182 AC.

Death

Barthogan was killed when Skagosi rose up against Winterfell during the reign of King Daeron II Targaryen,[103] which lasted from 184 AC to 209 AC.[14]

No further specifications can be given. Barthogan thus died in or between 184 AC and 209 AC.

Bella

Birth

Bella was conceived during the Battle of the Bells, which took place in 283 AC (see Battle of the Bells).[104][105] After the Battle of the Bells, Eddard Stark was married to Catelyn Tully. They conceived a child within a fortnight of their wedding, Robb, who was born in 283 AC (see Robb Stark). Since Robb was conceived after Bella was conceived, and Robb was both conceived and born in 283 AC Bella will thus have been born in 283 AC as well.

Bellenora Otherys

Birth

Bellenora was the eldest of three children of Bellegere Otherys and King Aegon IV Targaryen. Bellegere and Aegon were together from 161 AC until 171 AC.[26] This would place Bellenora's birth in 161 AC the earliest, and in 170 AC the latest (as she would have two younger sibling).

Bellenora was thus born in or between 161 AC and 170 AC.

Ben

Birth

Ben is 6 years old in 300 AC.[106] That gives him the following options:

  • 5 turning 6 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 294 AC
  • 6 turning 7 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 293 AC

No further specifics can be given. Ben was born in either 293 AC or 294 AC.

Ben Beesbury

Birth

Ben Beesbury was at least 80 years old when he became a potential suitor to Arianne Martell. He died a few years later.[77]

It is unknown when Doran Martell began to propose betrothals to Arianne. It is most likely that he did not do this while she was too young, though it definitely occurred after the secret document was signed. The document was signed before Ser Willam Darry got sick. Darry got sick when Daenerys Targaryen was 5 years old[107], so either in 289 AC or 290 AC (see Daenerys Targaryen). This makes 290 AC the last possible year where Darry and Oberyn Martell could have signed the contract.

In 290 AC, Arianne Martell would have been turning 14. Since Arianne was 14 years old when Daemon Sand asked for her hand in marriage,[77] it is possible that Doran Martell started here, though possibly he began earlier.

If Doran began in 290 AC with proposing marriages, that would be the first year that Ben Beesbury might have been considered. Ben has been mentioned in 300 AC to have been dead for a few years (he died a few years after having been proposed as a suitor, and in 300 AC is thus dead). That suggests that between the proposal and his death at least 2 years had passed. Since it is mentioned he died a few years after the proposal, and not that he died “this year”, there seem to be at least 3 years in between the proposal and 300 AC. This would mean that Beesbury was at least 80 years old in 297 AC the latest, and in 290 AC the earliest.

Being 80 years old in 297 AC (possibly turning 81 later in the year), would place Bens birth in 216 AC. Being at least 80 years old in 290 AC would place Beesbury's birth in 210 AC or later.

Ben Beesbury was thus born in or between 210 AC and 217 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Ben Blackthumb

Birth

Ben Blackthumb came to Harrenhal as a boy and first smithed for House Lothston.[87] House Lothston went extinct during the reign of King Maekar I Targayren[108] (221 AC to 233 AC),[34] meaning that Ben was born before 233 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Benedict Royce

Birth

Benedict Royce fathered three daughters by 299 AC according to Catelyn Tully.[109] The youngest was therefore born no later than 299 AC, the second no later than a year earlier in 298 AC, and the eldest no later than another year earlier in 297 AC. Benedict would have been at least 12 years old at his eldest's birth, therefore he could not have been born later than 285 AC.

Note: As all three daughters are wed, they're likely significantly older, but 299 AC is the only solid date we have to go by.

Death

Benedict was married to Jocelyn Stark[56], with whom he had three daughters.[109] He cannot have died earlier than the year before the youngest was born. Jocelyn, born no earlier than ~198 AC (see Jocelyn Stark), would have been at least 12 years old at the birth of the first, 13 at the second, and 14 at the third. Therefore the youngest daughter was born no earlier than ~212 AC, and Benedict died no earlier than ~211 AC.

Benfred Tallhart

Birth

After Benfred has formed a group of lances called the Wild Hares in 299 AC, his uncle Leobald describes the group to exist of boys "none older than nineteen years",[110] indicating that Benfred is 19 years old at most. As it is possible that Benfred will turn 20 later that year, he was born no earlier than 279 AC.

Benfred's younger sister, Eddara, was born no later than 290 AC (see Eddara Tallhart). As Benfred will be at least one year older than his younger sister, he cannot have been born after 289 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Benfred was thus born in or between 279 AC and 289 AC.

Benfrey Frey

Birth

Benfrey Frey is an older brother of Olyvar, Roslin and Willamen, and a younger brother of Perwyn. Perwyn was born no earlier than 270 AC (see Perwyn Frey). Benfrey comes next, so the earliest he could have been born is one year later than Perwyn, meaning that Benfrey was born no earlier than 271 AC.

Willamen comes after Benfrey, and Willamens earliest possible year of birth is 280 AC (see Willamen), meaning that Benfrey was born at least one year before Willamen, meaning that Benfrey was born no later than 279 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Benfrey was thus born in or between 271 AC and 279 AC.

Benjen Stark

Birth

Benjen Stark was the younger brother of Brandon, Eddard and Lyanna Stark.[85] Lyanna was his first elder sibling. She was born in either 266 AC or 267 AC (see Lyanna Stark). That Benjen was born after Lyanna, shows that he would have been at least one year younger than her, placing his birth in 267 AC the earliest, though it is possible he was born later.

Note: Benjen tells Jon Snow that he was younger than Jon when getting truly drunk for the first time. Jon is, at that moment, 14 years old.[111]. This means that Benjen got drunk for the first time when he was 13 years old (possibly turning 14 later that year ), or younger when he got "well and truly drunk" for the first time.

Benjen Stark (lord)

Birth

Benjen Stark's eldest son Rickon[56] was born no later than 96 AC (see Rickon Stark). As Benjen would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Rickon's birth, he was born no later than 84 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Benjen was thus born in or before 84 AC.

Death

Benjen was succeeded as Lord of Winterfell by his son Rickon,[56] who died in 121 AC.[57] Meaning that Benjen could not have died any later than 121 AC. Also, Ellard Stark was a Lord of Winterfell before Benjen and ruled in 101 AC,[112]. Therefore Benjen couldn't have died any earlier than 101 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Benjen thus died in or between 101 AC and 121 AC.

Benjen Stark (son of Artos)

Birth

Benjen Stark and his twin brother are the eldest/only children of Artos Stark,[56] who was born no earlier than ~186 AC (see Artos Stark). Artos would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so Benjen was born no earlier than ~198 AC.

Death

Benjen had at least one child.[56] He cannot have died earlier than the year before they were born. Benjen, born no earlier than ~198 AC, would have been at least 12 years old at the birth. Therefore the child was born no earlier than ~210 AC, and Benjen died no earlier than ~209 AC.

Benjen Stark (son of Bennard)

Birth

Benjen Stark's next youngest sibling, Brandon Stark,[56] was born no later than 125 AC (see Brandon Stark). Benjen would have been born at least a year earlier, so he was born no later than 124 AC.

Death

Benjen was alive in 126 AC.[57] Thus he died in or after 126 AC.

Benjicot Blackwood

Birth

Benjicot Blackwood was thirteen years old in 131 AC.[113][114] Furthermore, he is known to have been both eleven[115] and twelve[116] years old in 130 AC, demonstrating he was eleven turning twelve in that year, and thus was born in 118 AC.

Death

Benjicot Blackwood had a long life,[113] and was alive in 136 AC.[4] By 206 AC, the lordship of Raventree Hall had passed on Lord Quentyn Blackwood,[16] indicating Benjicot had died by then.

No further information can be given. Benjicot thus died in or between 136 AC and 206 AC.

Bennard Stark

Birth

When Bennard Stark's older brother Lord Rickon Stark[56] died in 121 AC,[57] Bennard became the regent for his nephew, Cregan Stark, during his minority.[57] In order to be Cregan's regent, Bennard had to have reached manhood in 121 AC, meaning that he was at least 16 years old in 121 AC. Therefore, 105 AC is the latest possible year of birth for Bennard.

No further specifications can be given. Bennard was thus born in or before 105 AC.

Death

Bennard is known to have been alive in 126 AC.[57]

No further specifications can be given. Bennard thus died in or after 126 AC.

Beren Tallhart

Birth

Beren Tallhart is 9 years old during the Harvest Feast in 299 AC.[110] That gives him the following options:

  • 8 turning 9 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 290 AC
  • 9 turning 10 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 289 AC

Later on in 299 AC, Beren has turned 10.[43] Being both 9 and 10 years old during 299 AC, shows that Beren turned 10 in 299 AC, and was thus born in 289 AC.

Berena Stark

Birth

Berena Stark's next youngest sibling, Alysanne Stark,[56] was born no later than 225 AC (see Alysanne Stark). Berena would have been born at least a year earlier, so she was born no later than 224 AC.

Berena's next oldest sibling, Artos Stark,[56] was born no earlier than ~186 AC (see Artos Stark). Berena would have been born at least a year later, therefore she was born no earlier than ~187 AC.

Thus, Berena was born in or between ~187 AC and 224 AC.

Beric Dondarrion

Birth

Beric Dondarrion was almost 22 years old when he went out to bring Gregor Clegane to justice.[117] This means he was still 21 years old. It is known that this event occurred in 298 AC, since Eddard Stark mentions Robert Baratheon has been the King for 15 years after Beric has left King's Landing,[118] placing this events still in 298 AC (Robert Baratheon was crowned in 283 AC[49]).This means that Beric has the following options:

  • 20 turning 21 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 277 AC
  • 21 turning 22 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 276 AC

No further specifications can be given. Beric is thus born in either 276 AC or 277 AC.

Death

Beric Dondarrion died his seventh and final time three days after the Red Wedding.[119][120] Robb Stark was preparing to march to Moat Cailin, and to attack it at the first day of 300 AC.[109] Moat Cailin is located at the northern border of the Neck, whereas the Twins are located south of the Neck,[121] and the time to cross the Neck has been established to be 12 days.[122] Since Robb was to leave the day after the wedding, and believed he could be in position to attack Moat Cailin by the first day of 300 AC, he thus seemed to be certain a journey stated earlier to last at least for about 12 days could be completed before then. Having been 12 days away from Moat Cailin, with Beric dying on the third day, Beric's death thus occurred before the new year began, in 299 AC.

Beron Stark

Birth

Beron Stark, in his 30's, was mortally wounded and "fading fast".[123] There exists the small possibility he lived long enough reach his next birthday, so we can say he died between the ages of 30 and ~40. As he died no earlier than 212 AC, and would have been ~40 years old at most, Beron was born no earlier than ~172 AC. As he died no later than 226 AC, and would have been 30 years old at least, Beron was born no later than 196 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Beron was thus born in or between ~172 AC and 196 AC.

Death

Beron Stark is alive during the events of The Mystery Knight, which take place in 212 AC.[17][124] Beron is followed as Lord of Winterfell by his first son Donnor Stark, who was in turn succeeded by his younger brother Willam Stark.[56] Willam died in 226 AC.[84] Therefore, Beron could not have died after 226 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Beron thus died in or between 212 AC and 226 AC.

Betha Blackwood

Birth

Betha Blackwood was nineteen years old when she married Prince Aegon Targaryen in 220 AC.[18] As the source for her age concerns a historical work, following rule #3, this places Betha's birth in 201 AC.

Since Beron is known to be alive in 212 AC[17] and it is possible for both Brandon and Rodwell to have died in 212 AC, this means 212 AC is the latest possible year for Brandon to die.

No further specifications can be given. Brandon thus died in or between 184 AC and 212 AC.

Brandon Stark (son of Willam)

Birth

Brandon Stark's father, Willam Stark died in 226 AC.[84] Brandon had two younger half-siblings, Edwyle and Jocelyn.[137] Since Brandon had a different mother than his half-siblings, it is possible that Brandon and Edwyle, his eldest half-sibling, had been born in the same year. Edwyle was born in 226 AC or before (see Edwyle Stark), indicating that Brandon could not have been born any later than 226 AC.

Brandon was the eldest child of Willam Stark,[56] who was born no earlier than ~185 AC (see Willam Stark). Willam would have been at least 12 years old at Brandon's birth, so Brandon was born no earlier than ~197 AC.

Brynden Tully

Birth

When Jaime Lannister was a squire (which he was from the age of 11 until the age of 15), he went to Riverrun. Jaime notes he was a squire “as green as summer grass”, indicating that this likely took place in one of the earlier years of his being a squire (at the age of 11, 12 or 13). At this event, Jaime met Brynden Tully. Jaime remembers that Brynden had been younger than Jaime was when remembering it (34), and Jaime himself was younger than his own squire (who was 15) was at that moment. [142]

This means that when Jaime was 11, 12, 13 or 14 years old, meaning that his visit to Riverrun occurred in either 277 AC, 278 AC, 279 AC, and 280 AC or 281 AC. During these years, Brynden Tully was 33 years old at the maximum, though it is possible that Brynden would be turning 34 later in the year.

If Jaime's visit to Riverrun took place in:

  • 277 AC, and Brynden was 33 turning 34 that year, Brynden would have been born in 243 AC
  • 278 AC, and Brynden was 33 turning 34 that year, Brynden would have been born in 244 AC
  • 279 AC, and Brynden was 33 turning 34 that year, Brynden would have been born in 245 AC
  • 280 AC, and Brynden was 33 turning 34 that year, Brynden would have been born in 246 AC
  • 281 AC, and Brynden was 33 turning 34 that year, Brynden would have been born in 247 AC

This shows that Bryndens earliest year of birth is 243 AC. If Brynden had been any younger than 33 (to be turning 34 later that year) during Jaime's first visit to Riverrun, Brynden's birth would take place later. If the event itself took place in one of the later years, Brynden would have been born later. The year 243 AC is therefore Brynden's earliest possible year of birth.

Brynden was a young knight during the War of the Ninepenny Kings,[143] in 260 AC.[41]

Knighthood can be received from the age of 15.[N 4] This means that Brynden was at least 15 years old during the war, which took place in 261 AC the latest. Turning 15 in 260 AC would place Bryndens birth in 245 AC. If Brynden had been at least 15 years old in 260 AC, he could not have been born any earlier than 245 AC, placing his birth in 245 AC or earlier.

No further specifications can be given. It can be concluded that Brynden was born in or between 243 AC and 245 AC.

By the start of the First Blackfyre Rebellion in early 196 AC, Calla and at least one sister had already been born.[145] As Calla was the eldest daughter,[145] she would have been at least one year older than her sister. As her sister had been born no later than early 196 AC, Calla could not have been born any later than one year before, in 195 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Calla was thus born in or between 185 AC and 195 AC.

Birth

Catelyn Stark is two years older than her sister, Lysa Arryn.[147] At one point, Catelyn described a memory, during which she herself was no older than Sansa (who was 12 at that time), Lysa younger than Arya (who was 9, soon to turn 10) and Petyr Baelish even younger still.[148] This indicates that Petyr was younger than Lysa by at least one year (otherwise, it would have stated that Petyr was the same age as Lysa had been at that point in time).

Sansa and Arya are two years apart in age.[111][86][122] However, looking at the moment during the year their namedays take place, it is clear that Arya's nameday falls early in the year, while Sansa's nameday falls at the end of the year. So even though they are born 2 years apart,[111][86][122] they actually differ about 2 years and a few months in age.

Looking at Catelyn's memory, she states there that she and Lysa are further apart in age than Sansa and Arya, yet she and Lysa still qualify as being two years apart in age. So Catelyn and Lysa differ nearly 2,5 years in age. Petyr was "younger still" during the memory, meaning he was at least 1 year younger than Lysa (otherwise they would have had the 'same age'). So between Catelyn and Petyr seems to be at least 3 years in age.

Petyr was born in 268 AC (see Petyr Baelish), and if Catelyn is at least 3 years older, that would place her birth no later than in 265 AC.

Amarei Crakehall died before Catelyn Tully was born.[68] Amarei's son Merrett was born in 262 AC (See Merrett Frey). Amarei had two younger sons after Merrett, meaning that Amarei couldn't have died before 264 AC. As Catelyn could only have been born after Amarei's death, Catelyn cannot have been born before 264 AC.

Thus, Catelyn Tully was born in either 264 AC or 265 AC. No further specifications can be given.

Death

Catelyn dies during the Red Wedding,[149] the news of which arrives at King's Landing before Joffrey's wedding,[150] which will take place on the first day of 300 AC.[151] The Red Wedding has thus occurred in 299 AC, meaning that Catelyn died in 299 AC

Birth

Cerelle Lannister was one of the maidens presented to King Aegon III Targaryen during the Maiden's Day Cattle Show in 133 AC.[3] As the maidens had to be under the age of thirty,[3] this means she could not have been born any earlier than 103 AC.

Cerelle's father, Jason Lannister, departed from Casterly Rock in 129 AC to fight in the Dance of the Dragons and died in battle in 130 AC,[128] meaning Cerelle could not have been conceived any later than 130 AC, and therefore that she could not have been born any later than 131 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Cerelle was thus born in or between 103 AC and 131 AC.

Note: While women can be married at a very young age, it is usually the case that women are closer to the age of majority. Cerelle is described as a "maiden of noble birth and marriageable age" in 133 AC,[3] suggesting that she was probably closer to the age of majority or even older in 133 AC.

Cerelle Lannister (daughter of Tybolt)

With Genna having been born in 245 AC, and with her having been at least twelve years old when Cleos was born, Cleos was born no earlier than twelve years after 245 AC, making 257 AC the first possible year of birth for Cleos.

Cleos's eldest son Tywin was born no later than 288 AC (see Tywin Frey (son of Cleos)). Cleos would have been at least twelve years old when Tywin was born, meaning that Cleos was born no later than twelve years prior to 288 AC, making the year 276 AC the last possible year of birth for Cleos.

Cregan Stark's son Rickon died in one of the final battles during the Conquest of Dorne. This battle occurred in either 157 AC or 158 AC. Rickon is named Cregan's heir at this point in history, indicating that Cregan still ruled Winterfell. Thus, Cregan died in 157 AC or after. Moreover, Cregan was succeeded as Lord of Winterfell by his second son, Jonnel Stark, who died at the latest in 209 AC (see Jonnel Stark). Cregan could have technically died the same year as Jonnel but not after, meaning that 209 AC is the lastest possible year of death for Cregan.

No further specifications can be given. Cregan thus died in or between 157 AC and 209 AC.

Cregard Stark

Birth

Cregard Stark and his twin brother Torrhen Stark are the eldest children of Serena Stark,[56] who was born no earlier than 140 AC (see Serena Stark). Serena would have been at least 12 years old at the birth, so Cregard was born no earlier than 152 AC.

Cregard and his twin's next youngest sibling, Arrana Stark,[56] was born no later than 209 AC (see Arrana Stark). Cregard would have been born at least a year earlier, so he was born no later than 208 AC.

Thus, Cregard was born in or between 152 AC and 208 AC.

Creighton Longbough

Birth

Creighton Longbough was in his fifties[159] in 300 AC.[138] That means in 300 AC he was 51 years old at the youngest, and 59 years old at the latest, though it is possible he would be turning 60 later in the year. That gives him the following options:

  • 50 turning 51 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 249 AC
  • 51 turning 52 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 248 AC
  • 52 turning 53 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 247 AC
  • 53 turning 54 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 246 AC

Crispian Celtigar was the Lord of Claw Isle during the early reign of King Aegon I Targaryen.[19] In 9 AC, the lordship of Claw Isle was held by Lord Alton Celtigar,[161] indicating Lord Crispian had passed away by then.

No further specifications can be given. Crispian thus died in or between 1 AC and 9 AC.

Culiper

Birth

Culiper was described as a man of eighty years in 50 AC,[50] but was said to have been closer to ninety than to eighty when he died in 54 AC,[71] indicating he was no younger than eighty-five, and no older than ninety-nine, although it is possible he would have turned ninety later that year, as such, Culiper has the following options:

Cynthea was thus born in 290 AC.

Cyrenna Swann

Birth

Cyrenna Swann gave birth to her first born child, Jared, in 249 AC the latest (see Jared Frey). With her firstborn child born in 249 AC the latest, and with Cyrenna having been at least twelve years old when her eldest child was born, Cyrenna cannot have been born any later than twelve years prior to 249 AC, in 237 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Cyrenna was thus born in 237 AC or before.

Death

Cyrenna Swann was the second wife of Walder Frey. Walder's eldest child by his third wife, Hosteen, was born no later than 258 AC (see Hosteen Frey). That means that Hosteen was conceived no later than 258 AC, and thus that Walder married his third wife no later than 258 AC. This means that Cyrenna could have died no later than 258 AC.

Cyrenna's youngest son, Luceon, was born in 248 AC the earliest (see Luceon Frey), meaning that 248 AC is the first possible year in which Cyrenna could have died.

No further specifications cannot be given. Cyrenna thus died in or between 248 AC and 258 AC.

Dacey Mormont

Birth

Dacey Mormont was born at least one year before her sister Alysane. Alysane was born in 278 AC the latest (see Alysane Mormont). This means that Dacey was born 277 AC the latest.

No further specifications can be given. Dacey Mormont was thus born in or between 251 AC and 277 AC, though it seems most likely, considering the ages of Maege's other children, that Dacey was born close to 277 AC.

Daella Targaryen (daughter of Maekar I)

Birth

Daella Targaryen was at least one year younger than her brother Aemon, but at least one year older than her brother Aegon. As Aemon was born in 198 AC,[31] and Aegon in 200 AC (see Aegon V Targaryen), Daella would have been born in 199 AC.

Daella was thus born in 199 AC.

Daemion Targaryen

Birth

Daemion Targaryen had one child, Aerion Targaryen,[19] who was born no later than 40 BC (see Aerion Targaryen). Daemion would have been at least twelve years old at the birth, he would have been born no later than 52 BC.

Daemion Targaryen would have been at least one year younger than his older brother, Baelon Targaryen.[19] As the earliest possible year of birth for Baelon is 87 BC (see Baelon Targaryen), Daemion would have been born no earlier than 86 BC.

  • 6 turning 7 in 196 AC, placing his birth in 189 AC
  • 7 turning 8 in 196 AC, placing his birth in 188 AC

Being 22 in 212 AC gives the following options:

  • 21 turning 22 in 212 AC, placing his birth in 190 AC
  • 22 turning 23 in 212 AC, placing his birth in 189 AC

The only overlapping year is 189 AC. Daemon was thus born in 189 AC.

Death

Daemon II Blackfyre was captured after his rebellion failed in 212 AC.[162] He was kept alive, as this would prevent Aegor Rivers from crowning his brother Haegon the new Blackfyre Pretender. Haegon was crowned such eventually, and began his own rebellion in 219 AC.[162] Since Haegon was able to launch his own rebellion, Daemon will have died before, making Haegon the new Pretender. Thus, Daemon died in or between 212 AC and 219 AC.

No further specifications can be given.

Daemon III Blackfyre

Birth

Daemon III Blackfyre was the eldest son of Haegon I Blackfyre,[14] who was born in 189 AC the earliest (Haegon I Blackfyre). Haegon would have been at least twelve years old when his first child was born, meaning that Daemon III was born no earlier than 201 AC.

Daemon Blackfyre (cousin of Maelys I)

Death

Daemon Blackfyre was killed by his cousin, Maelys Blackfyre, when they fought for the command of the Golden Company.[41] As Maelys is known to have been the captain-general of the company by 258 AC,[18] Daemon could not have died no later than 258 AC.

After the death of the Company's founder and first captain-general, Ser Aegor Rivers, in 241 AC (see Aegor Rivers), the command of the Company was held only by Blackfyres up until Daemon and Maelys.[14] Daemon could not have died no earlier than 241 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Daemon thus died in or between 241 AC and 258 AC.

Daemon Sand

Birth

Daemon Sand was 14 years old when Arianne Martell was 14 years old.[89] Arianne Martell was born in 276 AC (see Arianne Martell). She would have been 14 years old in 290 AC (13 turning 14) and 291 AC (14 turning 15). So Daemon was 14 years old in either 290 AC or 291 AC. That gives him the following options:

  • 13 turning 14 in 290 AC, placing his birth in 276 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 290 AC, placing his birth in 275 AC
  • 13 turning 14 in 291 AC, placing his birth in 277 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 291 AC, placing his birth in 276 AC

Daemon is known to be older than Arianne, though not by much.[78] As Arianne Martell was born in 276 AC (see Arianne Martell), Daemon will have been born either the same year, or before, eliminating 277 AC as a possibility.

No further specification can be given. Daemon was thus born in either 275 AC or 276 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Daemon was thus born in or between 11 BC and 2 AC.

Death

Daemon Velaryon died at the age of eighty-eight and was succeeded as Lord of Driftmark by his grandson, Corlys.[163] Corlys was not yet Lord of the Tides in 77 AC,[67] but was referred to as "Lord" by 90 AC,[67] indicating that Corlys had inherited his deceased grandfather's seat by that time.

No further specifications can be given. Daemon thus died in or between 77 AC and 90 AC.

Daena Targaryen

Birth

Daena Targaryen was the third born child of King Aegon III and Queen Daenaera.[164] She was thus at least one year younger than her brother Baelor, who was born in 144 AC (see Baelor I Targaryen), placing her birth no earlier than 145 AC.

Daena was 16 years old when Baelor ascended the throne in 161 AC.[165] As this would concern a more historical work reference, Daena thus turned 16 the year Baelor ascended the throne, and thus, was born in 145 AC.

Daena Targaryen was thus born in 145 AC.

Death

Daena Targaryen's claim to the Iron Throne was passed over after the death of King Baelor I in 171 AC.[166]

No further specifications can be given. Daena thus died in or after 171 AC.

Daenerys Targaryen

Birth

Eddard Stark mentions that Daenerys Targaryen is fourteen years old in 298 AC.[167] This leaves the following possibilities:

In addition, it is known that Daenerys learns she is pregnant on her fourteenth nameday.[168] Daenerys's pregnancy is discussed on two occasions in King's Landing, after the Tourney of the Hand has ended. The Tournament of the Hand of the King occurs at least 6 months into 298 AC, if not more, giving an indication, but not specifying that Daenerys turned 14 in 298 AC.

When Daenerys is following the comet, she mentions she is still fourteen years old.[169] The comet has appeared in the sky in 299 AC (see 298 AC to 299 AC).[170] This means that Daenerys has been mentioned to have been fourteen years old in both 298 AC and in 299 AC, eliminating 283 AC as Daenerys's possible birth year, leaving only the option 284 AC.

Daenerys was thus born in 284 AC.

Daenerys Targaryen (daughter of Aegon IV)

Birth

Daenerys Targaryen was born after her brother Daeron II Targaryen was already married and already had a son of his own.[171] Daeron's eldest son is Baelor Breakspear, born in 170 AC (see Baelor Targaryen (son of Daeron II)), showing that Daenerys was born the earliest in 170 AC.

Daenerys was born two years after Daemon Blackfyre,[14] who was born in 170 AC.[26] That places Daenerys's birth in 172 AC.

Daenerys was thus born in 172 AC.

Daenora Targaryen

Birth

Daenora Targaryen's elder siblings were born no earlier than 195 AC (see Aelor Targaryen & Aelora Targaryen), indicating that Daenora could not have been born any earlier than one year later, in 196 AC.

However, in 212 AC, Daenora's two siblings are mentioned as the only children of their father, Prince Rhaegel,[17] indicating that Daenora was born no earlier than 212 AC herself.

In 215 AC, Daenora's father, Prince Rhaegel, died,[162] indicating that Daenora could not have been born any later than 216 AC, nine months after Rhaegel's death.

No further specifications can be given. Daenora was thus born in or between 212 AC and 216 AC.

Birth

Daeron Targaryen was nine years old when he was betrothed to Olenna Redwyne in 237 AC. He was 18 years old in 246 AC, when he broke the betrothal.[18] On both occasions, rule #3 applies, placing Daerons birth in 228 AC.

Daeron Targaryen (son of Aerys II)

Death

Daeron Targaryen was born in 269 AC.[22] He lived for only half a year,[22] placing his death in either 269 AC, if he was born early in the year, or 270 AC, if he was born later in the year. No further specifications can be given.

No further indication can be given. Daeron was born in either 190 AC or 191 AC.

Death

Daeron Targaryen's daughter Vaella was born in 222 AC.[34] That means that Daeron had been alive at least until 221 AC, as Vaella's conception occurred nine months before her birth, and as it is unknown when Vaella's birth occurred in the year, it is possible that the year had turned between conception and birth. This makes 221 AC Daeron's first possible year of death.

Daeron predeceased his father Maekar, who died in 233 AC.[34][94] That means that Daeron could have died at late as 233 AC, only earlier in the year than his father.

No further specifications can be given. Daeron thus died in or between 221 AC and 233 AC.

Daeron I Targaryen

Birth

Daeron I Targaryen was 14 years old when he came into his throne in 157 AC.[172][94][173] Being 14 in 157 AC leaves the following possibilities:

  • 13 turning 14 in 157 AC, placing his birth in 143 AC
  • 14 turning 15 in 157 AC, placing his birth in 142 AC

It is also known that Daeron was 18 years old when he died in 161 AC, which gives the same possibilities as above.[111][94]

As it is the work of Maester Yandel which stated that Daeron was 14 when he ascended the throne in 157 AC,[173] rule #3 applies, eliminating the option of 142 AC, thereby placing Daeron's birth in 143 AC.

Daeron I was thus born in 143 AC.

With the minimum age of 8 for squires,[N 1] Dalbridge had been at least 8 years old in 262 AC. This is the absolute youngest that Dalbridge could have been, showing that the absolute latest year in which he could have been born was 254 AC (8 years prior to 262 AC).

No further specifications can be given. Dalbridge was thus born in 254 AC or before.

Dalton Greyjoy

Birth

  • 15 turning 16 in 129 AC, placing his birth in 113 AC
  • 16 turning 17 in 129 AC, placing his birth in 112 AC

As the sources for this information are the historical works of Maesters Yandel and Gyldyan, rule #3 applies, and the option 112 AC is eliminated. Dalton was thus born in 113 AC.

Damon Lannister (son of Jason)

Birth

Damon Lannister was the eldest trueborn child of Jason Lannister. According to semi-canon sources,[177] Jason was married to Damons mother, Alys Stackspear, at the age of 15. Jason was born in 229 AC (see Jason Lannister (son of Gerold)), and as the source for Jason's age at the time of marriage concerns a historical work, rule #3 applies, placing the wedding in 244 AC. As Alys was already pregnant with Jason's child at the time of their wedding,[177] Damon was born within 9 months of the wedding, thus either in 244 AC, the same year as the marriage, or 245 AC, the next year (if the conception had occurred less than 9 months before the turning of the year).

No further specification can be given

Damon Lannister (lord)

Birth

Damon Lannister's eldest son, Tybolt Lannister, was born at the latest in 194 AC (see Tybolt Lannister). Damon would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Tybolt's birth, meaning he could not have been born after 182 AC

During his participation in a tourney which took place "many years before" 196 AC, Damon had already been knighted.[16] Although it is unclear when the tourney took place, it would have taken place at least two years before 196 AC, placing Damon's tourney no later than 194 AC. As Damon had already had been knighted at the time, he would have been at least fifteen years old by 194 AC, placing his birth no later than 179 AC.

Birth

Davos Seaworth is known to have been sailing for 40 years.[179] It is unknown whether or not this includes Davos's time as a sailor, or whether or not this is only referring to Davos's time as a captain. Though Davos ill not have been sailing since his birth, it is unknown how old he was when he started sailing. This means we can only give an absolute minimum for an indication of Davos's age, placing his birth absolutely no later than 260 AC, though it seems certain and logical that Davos was born at least a few years earlier.

Del

Birth

Del is around the age of Jon Snow, who is born in 283 AC (see Jon Snow).[180] That places his birth roughly around 283 AC.

Della Frey

Birth

Della Frey is mentioned to be 3 years old both 299 AC and 300 AC.[51][43][44] Being 3 years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means Della was 2 turning 3 in 299 AC, and 3 turning 4 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 296 AC.

Desmera Redwyne is 16 years old in 299 AC.[51][43] She is still 16 years old in 300 AC.[44][49] Being 16 in both 299 AC and 300 AC means that Desmera was born in 283 AC.

Desmond Grell

Birth

Desmond Grell is of an age with Hoster Tully, in 299 AC [184] who was born in or between 238 AC and 240 AC (see Hoster Tully). That would place Desmonds birth roughly in or between 238 AC and 240 AC as well.

Devan Seaworth

Birth

Devan Seaworth is known to have 11 years old in late 299 AC.[185] He is 12 years old in 300 AC.[186] This gives him the following options:

  • 10 turning 11 in 299 AC, and 11 turning 12 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 288 AC
  • 11 turning 12 in 299 AC, and 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC

Devan Seaworth is known to be older than Edric Storm.[185] Edric was born in 287 AC (see Edric Storm). Since having been born in 288 AC would make Devan younger than Edric, 288 AC is eliminated, leaving only the option of 287 AC. Devan was thus born in 287 AC, the same year as Edric, and since Devan is the elder of the two, this means his birth occurred earlier in the year.

Devan was thus born in 287 AC.

Dickon Frey

Birth

Dickon Frey has been mentioned to have been 5 years old in 299 AC[51][43] and in 300 AC.[44] Being 5 years old in both 299 AC and 300 AC means he was 4 turning 5 in 299 AC, and 5 turning 6 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 294 AC.

Dickon was thus born in 294 AC.

Dickon Tarly

Birth

Dickon Tarly is described by Brienne of Tarth to be 10 or 12 in 300 AC.[140] Since Brienne proclaims that she is bad in estimating ages,[187] her word cannot be trusted 100% (she estimated Podrick, of 12 years of age, to be 10,[187] for example).

Being either 10, 11 or 12 in 300 AC would give Dickon the following options:

  • 9 turning 10 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 290 AC
  • 10 turning 11 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 289 AC
  • 11 turning 12 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 288 AC
  • 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 287 AC

With Samwell having been born in 283 AC (see Samwell Tarly), and with three sisters having been born in 3 years time in [188] between Dickon and Samwell, Dickon cannot have been born before 287 AC. That would make Dickon 12 turning 13 in 300 AC, when the observation of 10 or 12 is made. It is, however, not known whether the eldest of Dickons sisters was born the year after Samwell, or whether there were more years in between their births.

No further specifications can be given about Dickon. Dickon was born in or between 287 AC and 290 AC.

Domeric Bolton

Birth

Domeric Bolton had been fostered. After spending four years as a page for Lady Barbrey Dustin, Domeric spent three years in the Vale as a squire to Lord Redfort.[189] Fostering usually ends at the age of sixteen, when the boy becomes a man grown by law.[190] When Domeric returned home, after having enjoyed spending time with Lord Redfort’s sons, he learned he had a bastard brother. Domeric sought out his bastard brother, and died shortly thereafter.[189] Domeric died in 297 AC (see below, under "death"). If Domeric was 16 years old at the time of his death (and his death thus occurred shortly after his return from the Vale), Domeric would have been born in 281 AC.

It cannot be stated with certainty that Domeric died within a year of returning to the Dreadfort, or whether multiple years passed in between. It also cannot be stated with certainty that Domeric’s fostering ended at the age of sixteen. Although Domeric was said to have had the makings of a tourney knight, Domeric is not mentioned to have received his knighthood prior to leaving the Vale.

Due to the uncertainty that arises with Domeric's birth, we can thus only conclude that Domeric was born in or before 281 AC.

In any case, Domeric had been fostered by Lady Barbrey Dustin.[189] As Lady Barbrey has been Barbrey Ryswell until her marriage, Domerics fostering thus took place after Barbrey’s marriage to Lord Dustin. Lady Barbrey was married to Lord Dustin in 282 AC, and thus, technically, this is the first year where Domeric could have been fostered. With fosterings usually ending at the age of 16, and Domerics fostering in total having lasted 7 years, 4 years of which were spend at Lady Barbrey's, Domeric would have been 9 years old at the oldest when his fostering with Lady Barbrey started.

With Domeric's age at 9 at the maximum in 282 AC, Domeric cannot have been born before 273 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Domeric was thus born in or between 273 AC and 281 AC.

Death

In 299 AC, Domeric is said to have died "2 years ago".[110] This places Domerics death in 297 AC

Donal Noye

Birth

Donal Noye was "well past thirty" when he took a blow from an axe during the Siege of Storm's End during Robert's Rebellion.[48] Robert's Rebellion ended in 283 AC.[49] This means that Donal had been at least thirty-one years old during the siege, placing his birth no later than 252 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Donal was thus born in 252 AC or before.

Donald Tarly

Birth

Donald Tarly was the father of Samantha Tarly,[114] who was born at the latest in 113 AC (see Samantha Tarly). Donald would have been at least twelve years old at the moment of Samantha's birth, meaning that he could not have been born any later than 101 AC.

Death

Donald Tarly's daughter, Samantha Tarly,[114] was born at the earliest in 112 AC (see Samantha Tarly). Therefore Donald could not have died before 112 AC.

By early in 130 AC, the lordship of Horn Hill was held by Alan Tarly,[39] placing Donald's death no later than 130 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Donald thus died in or between 112 AC and 130 AC.

Donel Greyjoy

Birth

Donel Greyjoy was the third son of Quellon Greyjoy.[36] Thus, he would have been at least one year younger than his older brother, Quenton. Quenton was born no earlier than 254 AC (see Quenton Greyjoy), indicating that Donel could not have been born any earlier than 255 AC.

Donel would have been at least nine months older than Balon, Quellon's fourth son.[36] As Donel and Balon have different mothers,[36] following rule #2, it is possible that they were born in the same year. Balon was born in 261 AC the latest (see Balon Greyjoy), indicating that Donel's last possible year of birth is 261 AC as well.

No further specifications can be given. Donel was thus born in or between 255 AC and 261 AC.

Donella Hornwood

Birth

Donella Hornwood says she is "past her childbearing years" in 299 AC.[110] The Westerosi consider the age of forty-two to be "past [a woman's] childbearing years", and forty-four to be "well past her childbearing years",[70][71][67] although women of forty-four have been known to give birth to a child.[71][67] In real-life, the end of a woman's fertile cycle (menopause) occurs at an age of 49-52 on average, giving ~52 as a maximum age for giving birth to a child.

As the minimum age of "past her childbearing years" for Westerosi is at least forty-two, Donella will have been older than forty-two in 299 AC, placing her birth no later than 257 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Donella was thus born in or before 257 AC

Donnel Haigh

Birth

Donnel Haigh was born at least one year after his older brother Harys. Harys was born the earliest in 250 AC (see Harys Haigh), so Donnel was born no earlier than one year later, in 251 AC.

Donnel was born at least one year before his younger brother Alyn. Alyn was born no later than 291 AC (see Alyn Haigh), meaning that Donnel was born no later than 1 year before that, making Donnels last possible year of birth 290 AC.

Donnel, however, is a knight, in 299 AC,[15] meaning that he is at least fifteen years old at the time. Sandor Clegane mentions in 300 AC how he has ridden and won against Donnel many times,[191] suggesting that Donnel has been a knight for several years already. Sandor Clegane also states how he had almost killed Donnel in a melee. There are no known melee's that Sandor took place in 299 AC, meaning that this melee would have taken place in 298 AC the earliest. With Donnel having been at least fifteen years old in 298 AC at the latest, puts his last possible year of birth in 283 AC.

Donnel was thus born in or between 251 AC and 283 AC.

Donnel Hightower

Birth

Donnel Hightower was the grandfather of Ser Eustace Hightower,[192] who was born at the latest in 41 AC (see Eustace Hightower). Donnel would have been at least twelve years old at the time of the birth of Eustace's father and at least twenty-four at the moment of Eustace's birth. This means that Donnel was born no later than 17 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Donnel was thus born in or before 17 AC.

Donnel Waynwood

Birth

Donnel Waynwood is mentioned to be 20 years old in 298 AC.[147] For Donnel, that gives two options:

  • 19 turning 20 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 278 AC
  • 20 turning 21 in 298 AC, placing his birth in 277 AC

No further specifications can be given about Donnel. He was born in either 277 AC or 278 AC.

Donnor Stark

Birth

Donnor Stark's next youngest sibling, Willam Stark,[56] was born no later than 214 AC (see Willam Stark). Donnor would have been born at least a year earlier, so he was born no later than 213 AC.

Donnor was the eldest child of Beron Stark,[56] who was born no earlier than ~172 AC (see Beron Stark). Beron would have been at least 12 years old at Donnor's birth, so Donnor was born no earlier than ~184 AC.

Thus, Donnor was born in or between ~184 AC and 213 AC.

Death

Donnor Stark inherited the lordship of Winterfell from his father, Lord Beron Stark. Since Beron was alive in 212 AC,[17] Donnor could not have died earlier than 212 AC.

Donnor was succeeded as Lord of Winterfell by his younger brother, Willam. As Willam died in 226 AC,[84] Donnor could not have died any later than 226 AC

No further specifications can be given. Donnor thus died in or between 212 AC and 226 AC.

Dontos Hollard

Birth

Dontos Hollard has been described as being “a knight of forty years” in 300 AC.[138] This places Dontos's age in 300 AC at roughly 40 years, placing his age between 37 and 43.

Dontos has been described as having been a young boy during the Defiance at Duskendale.[187] The Defiance at Duskendale took place in 277 AC.[22] With Dontos still being named a “young boy” during this event, he would most likely not yet have reached the age of 16 yet (which is adulthood).

For Dontos, as per the descriptions of his age, the following options exist:

  • 36 turning 37 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 263 AC
  • 37 turning 38 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 262 AC
  • 38 turning 39 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 261 AC
  • 39 turning 40 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 260 AC
  • 40 turning 41 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 259 AC
  • 41 turning 42 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 258 AC
  • 42 turning 43 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 257 AC
  • 43 turning 44 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 256 AC

This gives the years 256 AC up to 263 AC as options for Dontos's birth.

The Defiance at Duskendale gives Dontos the following maxima:

  • Being 15 turning 16 in 277 AC, placing his birth no earlier than 261 AC

Comparing this possibility to the possibilities gained by looking at Dontos's known age in 300 AC, the years of 256 AC, 257 AC, 258 AC, 259 AC and 260 AC are eliminated.

This shows that Dontos was born in or between 261 AC and 263 AC.

Note: Being described as a “boy” suggests an age younger than 16 years, suggesting that Dontos's actual birth was closer to 263 AC than to 261 AC. Having been born in 263 AC (Dontos's youngest option) would have made him 13 years old in 276 AC, the first possible option, and one of the most likey options, for the Defiance.

Doran Martell

Birth

Doran Martell is 52 years old in 300 AC. [75] This gives Doran the following options:

  • 51 turning 52 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 248 AC
  • 52 turning 53 in 300 AC, placing his birth in 247 AC

No further specifications can be given. Doran was thus born in either 247 AC or 248 AC.

Dorea Sand

Birth

Dorea Sand is described as being 8 years old in 300 AC.[89] That leaves two options for Dorea:

  • 7 turning 8 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 292 AC
  • 8 turning 9 in 300 AC, placing her birth in 291 AC

No further specifications can be given. Dorea was thus born in either 291 AC or 292 AC.

Dorna Swyft

Birth

Dorna Swyft was handed over as a hostage by her father, Ser Harys Swyft, to Ser Kevan Lannister. This happened after Kevan's return from the War of the Nine Penny Kings in 260 AC and before the Reyne-Tarbeck revolt which occurred in 261 AC.[65] This indicates Dorna was born at the latest in 261 AC.

Dorna eventually married Kevan and they had four children together. Their youngest child is Janei Lannister,[51] born in either 296 or 297 AC (see Janei Lannister). The Westerosi consider the age of forty-two to be "past [a woman's] childbearing years", and forty-four to be "well past her childbearing years",[70][71][67] although women of forty-four have been known to give birth to a child.[71][67] In real-life, the end of a woman's fertile cycle (menopause) occurs at an age of 49-52 on average, giving ~52 as a maximum age for giving birth to a child.

So, Dorna would have been born, based on her daughter's age, no earlier than ~244 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Dorna was thus born in or between ~244 AC and 261 AC.

Drogo

Birth

Drogo is mentioned to have been no more than 30 years old when meeting Daenerys Targaryen, in either 297 AC or 298 AC.[193] Being 30 years old in 298 AC places Drogo's birth no later than 267 AC (being 30 turning 31 in 298 AC, with Drogo's nameday occurring after meeting Daenerys).

Drogo was thus born in 267 AC, roughly.

Duncan Targaryen

Birth

Duncan's parents, Aegon V Targaryen and Betha Blackwood, were married in 220 AC.[18] This means that Duncan's first possible year of birth is that same year, 220 AC. Duncan would be at least one year older than his brother, Jaehaerys, who was born in 225 AC (see Jaehaerys II Targaryen), meaning that Duncan was born no later than 224 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Duncan was thus born in or between 220 AC and 224 AC.

Duncan the Tall

Birth

Duncan the Tall was 16 or 17 years old in 209 AC.[16] He had squired for Ser Arlan of Pennytree since the age of 5 or 6. When he was 3 or 4 years old, the Redgrass Field, in 196 AC, was being fought.[12] He is 18 or 19 years old in 211 AC.[12] Being 16 or 17 years old in 209 AC gives the following options:

  • 15 turning 16, placing his birth in 193 AC
  • 16 turning 17, placing his birth in 192 AC
  • 17 turning 18, placing his birth in 191 AC

The same possibilities will be achieved with being 18 or 19 in 211 AC, and with being 3 or 4 in 196 AC.

Further, it is known that Duncan was born "some time around 192 AC".[99]

No further specifications can be given. Duncan the Tall was thus born in either 191 AC, 192 AC or 193 AC.

Dunstan Drumm

Birth

Dunstan Drumm is mentioned to be younger than Erik Ironmaker.[194] Since Erik was born in either 211 AC or 212 AC (see Erik Ironmaker), Dustan will have been born in 212 AC or later.

Duram Bar Emmon

Birth

Duram Bar Emmon was 14 years old in early 299 AC.[160] He was 15 in late 299 AC,[195] between the Battle of the Blackwater and Joffrey’s wedding on the first day of 300 AC. He was also 15 years old in 300 AC.[44] Being both 14 and 15 in 299 AC means Bar was 14 turning 15 in 299 AC, placing his birth in 284 AC.

Dyanna Dayne

Death

Dyanna Dayne is mentioned to have died by the time the Ashford Tourney takes place in 209 AC.[16] This makes it possible that Dyanna had died earlier that same year, making 209 AC the last possible year of her death.

Dyanna had given birth to six children in total. Her youngest child, Rhae, was born no earlier than 201 AC (see Rhae Targaryen). This means that Dyanna lived at least long enough to give birth to Rhae, making her first possible year of death 201 AC.

No further specifications can be given. Dyanna thus died in or between 201 AC and 209 AC.

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 Generally, one seems to be at least 8 years old when becoming a squire, though he can also be older
  2. Alys Karstark, born in either 284 AC or 285 AC, was considered to have been "almost of an age" with Jon Snow and Robb Stark, who both had been born in 283 AC (A Dance with Dragons, Jon IX). That same year, Bethany Blackwood, born in 291 AC or 292 AC, was considered to have been "almost of an age" with King Tommen I Baratheon (A Dance with Dragons, Jaime I), who had been born in 291 AC.
  3. Tywin Lannister returned from the war and began to demand his father's bannermen pay their debts. This led to a fight between House Lannister and House Tarbeck, which escalated until Lord Tytos forced a peace, which was said to have lasted “not quite a year”. In late 261 AC, Tywin Lannister found a way to legally break the peace.
  4. Generally, one seems to be at least 15 years old - though usually is at least a few years older - upon receiving knighthood
